Early Access, step by step

Assetto Corsa EVO Early Access: Where Online Racing Stands

Assetto Corsa EVO entered Early Access on Steam on 16 January 2025, and KUNOS Simulazioni has been adding multiplayer step by step. Online racing arrived in 0.3, self-hosted dedicated servers in 0.6, community cars online in 0.8 and mandatory pit stops in 0.9. Kunos says 0.9 is not the final Early Access release, and the first Eifel Free Roam is due in update 0.10.

Early Access16 January 2025Current0.9.1 · 1 September 2026Next0.10 with Eifel Free Roam

01

0.3: multiplayer step one

September 2025 brought online racing, with servers of up to 16 drivers per race at first. Kunos said slot counts would rise to track capacity once session stability was secured.

02

0.6: run your own server

In April 2026 Kunos released the dedicated game server executable through Steam Tools, so players can host their own servers with essential configuration options.

03

0.8: community cars online

The server launcher now accepts modded car content and checks each car with a SHA verification layer, rejecting modified cars or wrong mod versions before they reach the grid.

04

0.9: pit strategy

Mandatory pit stops arrived for timed online races longer than 20 minutes, with the pit window chosen by the server admin. 0.9.1 followed on 1 September 2026.

Race setup

Race Setup and Community Cars for Assetto Corsa EVO Server Hosting

Kunos describes the self-hosted server as having essential configuration features, and each update has added more. These are the pieces that matter for a league or club server today.

Race setup

Car and track choice

The server decides which cars are eligible, down to the version and visual configuration, and which track and layout you race on.

Mandatory pit stops

For timed races over 20 minutes, the admin can make a pit stop compulsory and set the pit window. Drivers plan the stop, tyres, pressures and fuel from the MFD.

Community cars

Since 0.8 a server can run cars built with the EVO car editor. Every driver needs the same version, and the server's SHA check turns away anything that does not match.

Rules and players

Admin commands

Admins can send commands to the server during a session, and 0.8 added feedback for them in the server and multiplayer chat.

Track limits

0.5 introduced gain-based cut detection: a driver who gains time off track has 500 metres to give it back before a penalty.

Steam players on PC

Assetto Corsa EVO is a Windows game on Steam during Early Access. Your server is for PC drivers in that version.

Memory for every grid

RAM for Assetto Corsa EVO Server Hosting: How Much You Need

Kunos publishes no memory figure for the dedicated server, and its requirements during Early Access are still moving. We bundle the free 5GB tier on 8 and 16 slots and 8GB on 24 and 32, which leaves headroom for bigger grids and community cars. Larger tiers are on the order form if a future update needs them.

  • Friends or a small club

    Plan: 8 Slots
    RAM included: 5GB

When to add more: Unlikely to need more on a stock car list.

  • A league grid of up to 16

    Plan: 16 Slots
    RAM included: 5GB

When to add more: Consider 8GB if you run community cars or long sessions.

  • Larger grids as Kunos raises the limit

    Plan: 24 Slots
    RAM included: 8GB

When to add more: Watch the memory graph after each Early Access update.

  • Endurance events and long tracks

    Plan: 32 Slots
    RAM included: 8GB

When to add more: Step up to 12GB if a big modded grid runs close to the limit.

RAM tiers on the order form: 5GB, 8GB, 12GB, 16GB, 20GB, 24GB and 32GB. You can change tier later from the client area.

DDoS protection

Attack traffic is filtered before it reaches the server, so a race is not ended from outside.

5.0GHz CPUs, NVMe drives

Fast cores keep the server responsive when a full grid is fighting into turn one.

Before lights out

Assetto Corsa EVO Server Hosting Essentials Before You Order

Five things that save a race night.

  1. Update the server with the game

Kunos says the server is backwards compatible but not forwards compatible. After a game update, update the server before anyone joins.

  2. Know the current grid limit

Online racing started at 16 drivers per server, with more promised. Check the current build's limit before you plan a big grid.

  3. Share community car versions

Every driver needs the exact version of each community car the server runs, or the SHA check refuses it.

  4. Pit windows need longer races

Mandatory stops only apply to timed online races over 20 minutes, so plan session lengths around them.

  5. It is still Early Access

Features and settings are still being added. Expect change between updates and keep a backup of a configuration that works.

Answers

Assetto Corsa EVO Server Hosting Questions

Short answers to what league organisers and club racers ask us most.

Getting started

How quickly is my Assetto Corsa EVO server ready?

It is set up automatically once your payment clears, and the panel login arrives by email. Most servers are ready for a practice session within a few minutes.

Is this the official dedicated server?

Yes. Kunos released the Assetto Corsa EVO dedicated server executable through Steam Tools in update 0.6, and that is what your server runs.

How do drivers join my server?

Drivers connect from the in-game multiplayer menu. Share the server details shown in the panel with your league, along with the event time and car list.

Which location should I choose?

Run the ping test on this page from your rig. Pick the lowest result for most of your drivers; all 9 locations cost the same.

Grids, cars and rules

How many drivers can race on one server?

When multiplayer launched in 0.3, Kunos limited servers to 16 drivers per race and said the number would rise to track capacity once sessions were stable. Check the current build's limit before you choose a plan above 16.

Can I run community cars?

Yes, since update 0.8. The server launcher accepts modded car content and uses SHA verification to reject modified cars or wrong mod versions, so every driver needs the same files.

Can I make pit stops mandatory?

Yes. Since 0.9, timed online races longer than 20 minutes can require a pit stop, with a pit window the server admin sets.

Can console players join?

No. During Early Access Assetto Corsa EVO is a Windows game on Steam, so your server is for PC drivers.

Updates and Early Access

What happens when Assetto Corsa EVO updates?

Run Steam Update in the panel and restart. Kunos says the dedicated server is backwards compatible but not forwards compatible, so the server and every driver need the new version.

What is coming in Early Access?

Kunos says 0.9 is not the last Early Access release, and that update 0.10 brings the first iteration of the Eifel Free Roam. We will update this page as features arrive.

Are backups included?

Yes. We keep offsite copies for the last 7 days, restorable from the panel. Save a copy of a working configuration before each update.

Billing and plans

How much does Assetto Corsa EVO server hosting cost?

The 8 slot plan is the cheapest, at £4.99 a month. The plans above show every size for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months, and the longer cycles cost less per month.

Can I change plan as grids grow?

Yes. Add slots or RAM from the client area when Kunos raises grid sizes or your league grows. The server keeps its configuration.

Assetto Corsa EVO Server Hosting Explained: A Complete Guide

This guide explains what running your own Assetto Corsa EVO server involves during Early Access: where multiplayer stands, sizing a grid, race rules, community cars, updates and running a league. It is written for the organiser who books the server, not the driver who turns up.

Why Run Your Own Assetto Corsa EVO Server

Assetto Corsa EVO already offers official online racing: free public servers running around the clock and the Daily Racing Portal, with ranked races split by GridRating and a safety rating that judges how you race others. That covers jumping in for a quick race. It does not cover a league with its own calendar, a club that races a single car on a single track every Thursday, or a group of friends who want rules of their own.

Since update 0.6 Kunos has offered the answer itself: a dedicated server executable that anyone can host. Running it in a data centre means the server is there every race night, with a fixed location and steady bandwidth, and nobody has to leave a gaming PC switched on.

How Multiplayer Has Grown in Early Access

Early Access began on 16 January 2025 without online racing. Kunos has built it up in stages since, and each stage changed what a server owner can do.

UpdateWhenWhat it meant for servers
0.3September 2025Multiplayer step one, up to 16 drivers per race, free public servers
0.4December 2025Server list shows player counts; quicker car selection for multiplayer
0.5February 2026Gain-based track cut penalties; per-corner track limits
0.6April 2026Self-hosted dedicated server via Steam Tools; steadier multiplayer collisions
0.8July 2026Community cars in multiplayer with SHA verification; admin command feedback
0.9August 2026Mandatory pit stops with an admin-set pit window

Sizing Your Grid

Slots are how many drivers can be connected at once. When online racing launched in 0.3, Kunos capped each server at 16 drivers per race and promised to raise that to track capacity and beyond once sessions were stable. That is why our 16 slot plan is the one we suggest for most leagues today.

The 24 and 32 slot plans carry a note for the same reason. They suit endurance events on long tracks and open lobbies, but only once the server build you run allows grids that big. Check the limit in the current build before you book them. If you start on 16 and Kunos raises the cap, you can add slots from the client area without setting the server up again.

Race Rules: Pit Windows and Track Limits

Two rule sets matter for organised racing. The first is pit strategy. Since 0.9, timed online races longer than 20 minutes can make a pit stop compulsory, and the server admin sets the window in which it must be taken. Drivers plan the stop lap, tyres, pressures and fuel through the MFD, which brings real strategy into league races.

The second is track limits. Update 0.5 replaced simple cut warnings with a gain-based system: if a driver gains time off track, they have 500 metres to give it back, and if they do not, the penalty scales with the time still owed, from a warning up to disqualification. Kunos also made it possible to relax limits on individual corners where running wide costs time anyway, such as gravel on a corner exit.

  • Run races of more than 20 minutes if you want a compulsory stop.
  • Tell drivers the pit window in your event notes, not just on the server.
  • Agree how stewards handle incidents the automatic penalties do not catch.

Community Cars on a Server

Update 0.7 introduced the Assetto Corsa EVO SDK and car editor, at first for single player only. In 0.8 Kunos brought community cars into multiplayer: the server launcher accepts modded car content, and a SHA verification layer checks every car before it reaches the grid. A modified file or a different mod version is rejected.

  1. Agree the car and its exact version with your drivers.
  2. Upload the car content to the server with the File Manager or SFTP.
  3. Add it to the server's car list in the configuration and restart.
  4. Ask every driver to install the same version before race night, then check the log for rejected cars.

Updates in Early Access

Early Access means frequent patches, and the dedicated server has a rule worth remembering. Kunos explained with update 0.6.3 that the server app is backwards compatible but not forwards compatible. A server on the latest build can take older clients, but drivers who have updated cannot race on a server that has not.

In practice: when Steam updates the game, run Steam Update in the panel and restart before anyone tries to join. Keep a copy of your working configuration, because new updates sometimes add settings, and read Kunos' patch notes for anything that changes multiplayer.

What to Compare Before You Rent an Assetto Corsa EVO Server

During Early Access the details below matter more than the headline price.

  1. Official server softwareMake sure the host runs Kunos' own dedicated server, not a workaround.
  2. Updates on your scheduleThe server must match your drivers' version. You should be able to update it yourself on patch day.
  3. Honest grid sizesPaying for 64 slots means little if the current build caps the grid lower. Ask what the server actually allows.
  4. File accessCommunity cars and configuration changes need SFTP or a file manager.
  5. Locations you can testRun a ping test from your drivers' regions; fair racing needs similar latency for everyone.
  6. Billing termsCompare monthly and longer cycles, and check for setup fees.
