Why Host Conan Exiles on a Dedicated Server

Conan Exiles is built around permanence. Clans raise fortresses, break thralls on the wheel and keep pets that took weeks to raise, and none of that should vanish because the host's PC is switched off. A dedicated server keeps the Exiled Lands running for every member of the clan, whatever their time zone.

Your own server also means your own rules. Funcom's server settings cover PvP, building damage, harvest and experience rates and much more, so a relaxed PvE roleplay server and a raid-every-night PvP server are just different settings files. Hosting it with us adds a fixed address, DDoS filtering, rollbacks and someone to call at any hour.

Enhanced or Legacy: Which Version to Run

Since May 2026 there are two versions of Conan Exiles on PC. The choice decides which mods you can use and which players can join, because a player's game version must match the server's.

For a new server, Enhanced is the natural choice: it is where Funcom's work goes, from the Legacy of the Giant-Kings story chapters to engine upgrades. Legacy makes sense when a server relies on a mod that has not made the jump, and players then switch their own game to the conan-exiles-legacy branch in Steam.

Moving an Existing Server to Enhanced

1. Check every mod on the server has an Enhanced version. If one does not, wait.
2. Stop the server and take a backup, then download it if you want a copy at home.
3. Run a Steam update to install the Enhanced dedicated server build.
4. Update your mods from the Steam Workshop button and start the server.

Exiled Lands databases carry over with characters, structures and progress. The move is one way: a save opened on Enhanced cannot go back to UE4, which is why the backup matters. Servers that ran Isle of Siptah as a separate map need a fresh Exiled Lands database, because Siptah's coordinates changed; players can bring their characters, levels, inventory and followers with Funcom's transfer tool, but not their bases.

Maps, Isle of Siptah and Custom Maps

The map is set in Engine.ini, which our Easy Configurator shows as a drop-down. Changing it means a new world, so the usual order is: back up, choose the new map, run a Steam update, wipe the server, then start.

Enhanced joined the Exiled Lands and Isle of Siptah into one map. Players travel between the two regions through an NPC, so a single server can host both, and access to Siptah still needs the Isle of Siptah DLC. Custom maps made as mods are installed through the Workshop and then named in Engine.ini; at Enhanced's launch Funcom said support for modded maps would follow in a later patch, so check the map's Workshop page for an Enhanced version.

Slots, Memory and the 70 Player Limit

Funcom's own server guide gives private servers a range of 1 to 70 players, so our largest plan is the full 70. Most clan servers are far smaller: a group of friends fits comfortably in 20 slots, and community servers usually land between 40 and 60.

Memory grows with what players build and tame rather than with the clock. Our order form recommends 12GB as a starting point on Enhanced, and that is what the 20 slot plan includes; the rest step up a tier each, to 14GB on 30 slots, 16GB on 40, 20GB on 50, 24GB on 60 and 32GB on 70. If the panel's graph sits near the limit on a busy evening, upgrade from the client area; the world stays as it is.

Admin Rights and Server Settings

Conan splits its settings across a few files. Engine.ini holds the server name, password and map; ServerSettings.ini holds the gameplay rules and the AdminPassword; Game.ini holds the RCON settings. Our Config Editor opens them as forms, and changes only apply while the server is stopped.

• Admin access: in game, Esc, Settings, Server Settings, Make Me Admin, then the AdminPassword.
• Admin panel: Ctrl+Shift+C once you are an admin, for spawning, teleporting and fixing problems.
• Rules: PvP, building damage, harvest and XP rates are server settings, so the same map can feel very different.
• RCON: for remote commands and admin tools; the port is set in Game.ini.

Enhanced also changed some settings. Funcom's launch notes add options such as crafting from nearby storage and building replication distance, and remove a few older ones, so if you copy a ServerSettings.ini from a UE4 server, read it through rather than trusting every line.

Workshop Mods and Load Order

Mods on PC come from the Steam Workshop, and the server needs the same mods as its players. Our Steam Workshop button installs a mod and writes its ID into modlist.txt, which is the list the server loads at start-up and offers to joining players.

• Install mods in the order they should load; a manual reorder of modlist.txt resets on the next mod update.
• Use the Workshop updates button, or a scheduled Update Workshop Mods task that warns players before restarting.
• After a Conan patch, check each mod has caught up before you start the server.
• On Enhanced, use only mods published for Enhanced; UE4 mods have to be rebuilt by their authors.

Backups, Rollbacks and the Database

Everything in a Conan world lives in its database: every wall, thrall and chest. That makes snapshots very effective. Rollback Server in the panel lists snapshot dates; pick one, run it and keep the window open until it finishes. It is the quickest fix for a raid that went too far or a mod that broke a base.

Take a manual backup before every big step, such as a Steam update, a new mod or the move to Enhanced, and download it if you want a copy of your own. Offsite copies of the last 7 days are kept as well.

What to Compare Before You Rent a Conan Exiles Server

Seven points that decide whether a Conan server is easy to run.

1. Enhanced and UE4 optionsMake sure the host runs Enhanced and can still give you UE4 if your mods need it.
2. Workshop toolsInstalling mods by ID through tickets is slow. Look for one-click installs that keep load order.
3. Rollbacks you can runRaids and broken mods happen. Being able to restore a snapshot yourself is worth more than extra slots.
4. Memory for your mod listCheck the RAM included in the price, not just the slot count.
5. Ping to your clanTest latency from where your players live; melee combat punishes lag.
