Your first hour: from a fresh server to your clan at the gate
Game servers are normally live within 20 minutes of ordering. Six steps take a fresh Conan Exiles install to a named, protected server that your clan can find and that you control.
- Sign in to the panelLog in at cpdeluxe.com and open your Conan Exiles service. Start, Stop and the More menu are together at the top.
- Stop before every editConan reads its .ini files at boot. Changes saved while the server runs do not take, so stop it first, every time.
- Name and passwordFuncom keeps the server name and join password in
Engine.ini, under[OnlineSubsystem]:ServerNameandServerPassword. Open it from Configuration Files. On Enhanced the password also encrypts the connection, so a private server is private in transit too. - Your admin passwordIn
ServerSettings.ini, setAdminPassword. While you are there, choose PvE or PvP and your region, which the settings chapter covers. - Start and waitPress Start. For 30 to 60 seconds the panel may show no CPU or memory while a safety copy is made, and a server with a large world database can take 3 to 10 minutes to boot.
- Join and take chargeSearch your server's name in the in-game browser, or use Direct Connect with the IP and port from the panel. Once inside, press Esc, open Settings, then Server Settings, choose Make me Admin and type your admin password.
Enhanced or Legacy: which Conan Exiles your server runs
On 5 May 2026 Funcom released Conan Exiles Enhanced, moving the whole game to Unreal Engine 5 as a free upgrade for Steam owners. The old Unreal Engine 4 build lives on as Conan Exiles Legacy. Your server and your players must be on the same one.
Enhanced (UE5)
- The version Funcom updates; our standard Conan Exiles server runs it.
- Reads an existing Exiled Lands database, so characters and bases move across.
- Isle of Siptah is part of one shared map, reached through an NPC and still tied to the DLC.
- Needs mods rebuilt for Unreal Engine 5.
Legacy (UE4)
- No new content; Funcom has shipped only hotfixes for it since Enhanced arrived.
- Players pick Conan Exiles Legacy under Game Versions & Betas in the game's Steam Properties.
- Keeps older mods working that were never rebuilt.
- On our panel, ask support by ticket to switch a server to the Legacy branch.
Moving an existing server to Enhanced
- Check every modOpen each mod's Workshop page and confirm it supports Enhanced. Many UE4 mods have not been rebuilt and some never will be; one outdated mod can stop the server or damage the world.
- Back upStop the server and press Backup Server. An Exiled Lands database opened on Enhanced cannot go back to UE4, so this copy is your only way home.
- UpdateRun Steam Update, then start the server and test with one player before announcing it.
Ran a standalone Siptah server? Its world cannot come across. Enhanced has no separate Siptah map or database, and the island's coordinates changed, so Siptah bases cannot be kept. Characters can move with Funcom's official transfer tool, one at a time and outside a clan, keeping level, inventory and followers, so dismantle and pack materials into followers first. On Enhanced the save file itself is game_0.db: the server copies an old game.db to that name on first start, so point any backup habits at the new file.
Enhanced keeps moving. Patch 1.2.0 (9 June 2026) and 2.2.0 (15 September 2026) both required mods to be rebuilt again, and 2.2.0 moved the game to Unreal Engine 5.8.2 with the Iris replication system; Funcom says it roughly halves server lag on a full server. Patch 3.0.0 on 6 October 2026 brought Legacy of the Giant-Kings Part Two.
ServerSettings.ini: rates, rules and how harsh the world feels
Almost every rule on a Conan server lives in ServerSettings.ini, under [ServerSettings]. Multipliers default to 1.0; change them in small steps. Setting names below follow Funcom's notes and the server settings list from Inflexion Games, who built Enhanced with Funcom.
Listing and identity
- serverRegion = 0
- Which region the browser files you under (0 is Europe). Enhanced also adds RegionAllow switches per region; a region left disabled is a common reason a server seems invisible.
- ServerMessageOfTheDay = Welcome, exile
- The message players see when they join.
- IsBattlEyeEnabled = True
- BattlEye anti-cheat. Keep it on for any server strangers can join.
- MaxNudity = 2
- The most nudity the server allows. Since hotfix 1.0.3 players can still choose to see less.
- MaxAllowedPing = 300
- Players above this ping are kicked. Funcom raised the default from 200 to 300 in hotfix 1.0.1.
One setting has gone: Enhanced removed ServerCommunity, the old Purist, Relaxed and Role Playing labels, so describe your server in its name and message of the day instead.
Progression and gathering
- PlayerXPRateMultiplier = 1.0
- Scales every kind of XP; separate Kill, Harvest, Craft and Time multipliers fine-tune it.
- HarvestAmountMultiplier = 1.0
- Resources per strike. 2.0 doubles them.
- ResourceRespawnSpeedMultiplier = 1.0
- How quickly harvested nodes come back.
- ItemConvertionMultiplier = 1.0
- Crafting time in benches and furnaces; below 1 is faster. (Funcom's spelling.)
- ThrallConversionMultiplier = 1.0
- Time a captive spends on the Wheel of Pain; 0.5 halves it.
- ItemSpoilRateScale = 1.0
- How quickly food spoils. Smaller values make food last longer.
Death, day and night
- DropEquipmentOnDeath = 1
- Funcom documents 0 (keep everything), 1 (drop everything, the default) and 2 (drop the backpack only).
- EverybodyCanLootCorpse = True
- False keeps a body for its owner. A known issue in patch 1.3.0 leaves it on for PvP servers regardless.
- DayCycleSpeedScale = 1.0
- Speed of the whole day;
DayTimeSpeedScale,NightTimeSpeedScaleandDawnDuskSpeedScaletune each part.
PvE, PvP and raid hours your clans can plan around
The biggest decision on a Conan server is who may hurt whom, and when. Two switches set the style, and a set of time windows turns open warfare into scheduled raiding.
PvE
PVPEnabled=False, the Enhanced default. Players fight the land, not each other, and bases are safe.
PvE-Conflict
Players may fight each other but bases cannot be damaged. Inflexion's settings list gives CombatModeModifier=1 for this style.
Full PvP
PVPEnabled=True and CanDamagePlayerOwnedStructures=True with no time limits: anything goes, around the clock.
Setting raid hours
Funcom's settings give every day of the week its own window, written as 24 hour clock values without a colon (1800 is 6pm). RestrictPVPTime=True limits player fighting to those windows, and RestrictPVPBuildingDamageTime=True does the same for damage to bases.
- RestrictPVPBuildingDamageTime = True
- Bases can only be damaged inside the windows below.
- PVPBuildingDamageEnabledFriday = True
- One switch per day; set the quiet days to False.
- PVPBuildingDamageTimeFridayStart = 1900
- Raids open at 7pm server time.
- PVPBuildingDamageTimeFridayEnd = 2300
- And close at 11pm.
The same pattern exists for player fighting (PVPEnabledMonday, PVPTimeMondayStart and so on). All times are server time, so tell your community which time zone that is; our London, Frankfurt, US and Sydney locations each keep their own.
Clans, building decay, thralls and the Purge
Conan worlds fill up: clans claim land, thralls guard walls and the Purge arrives to test them. These settings decide how crowded and how dangerous your map becomes over the weeks.
Clans and land
- ClanMaxSize = 30
- Most members per clan; once full, no one else can join. Smaller clans keep PvP fairer.
- LandClaimRadiusMultiplier = 1.0
- The area a building claims around it, which also keeps resources and enemies from spawning there.
- DisableBuildingAbandonment = False
- Leave it False so bases whose owners stop logging in decay; True switches decay off.
- BuildingDecayTimeMultiplier = 1.0
- Higher gives absent players longer before their base decays.
Decay is what keeps a busy map from silting up with abandoned walls. Switch it off on a small private server where everyone knows each other; leave it on for public servers, where an old base nobody visits still costs memory and space.
The Purge
Funcom rebuilt the Purge in September 2023. Clans now call it themselves with Proclaim Wealth at a Hoard Coffer, and the threat level, from 1 to 10, rises with the treasure inside, so the attack finds a path to the coffer rather than hitting a random base. That makes it something your community plans around rather than a random punishment; tell new players where the coffer rules are written down.
Thralls and followers
Hundreds of thralls standing on walls are one of the main causes of lag Funcom names, alongside building pieces and placeables. Enhanced servers can cap them: with UseMinionPopulationLimit=True, each clan gets a base allowance (MinionPopulationBaseValue, 50 by default) plus MinionPopulationPerPlayer for every member, and MinionOverpopulationAllowed decides how far over the cap a clan may go before the excess is removed. Rescue rules stay as Funcom set them: FollowerRescueCooldown defaults to 3,600 seconds and DamageCooldownBeforeRescue to 600.
Mods, load order and custom maps
Mods are a large part of Conan on PC, from building packs to roleplay overhauls. Players need the same mods as the server, and the order they load in matters.
- Stop the serverThen open the Steam Workshop button in the panel.
- Install in load orderSearch for each mod and press Install. Its ID is added to
modlist.txt, the list the server loads, and Funcom's advice is that players run the same mods in the same order as the server. - Keep that orderInstall and uninstall mods in the order you want them to load. If you rearrange modlist.txt by hand, the next mod update puts it back to install order.
- Start and testJoin with the same mods. On Enhanced, a player with a different set sees a Mod Mismatch screen, and Connect restarts their game with the server's mods.
Keeping mods current
Create an Update Workshop Mods task under Scheduled Tasks. Every 12 hours, for example, it checks for new versions and, only when a mod has changed, warns players and restarts; set the warning time on the Script Parameters tab (5 minutes by default). Updated mods on the server and out-of-date copies on players' PCs are the classic cause of failed joins.
Custom maps
- Install the map modWith the server stopped, install the map through the Steam Workshop button. Make a copy of the map mod in your mods folder, named after the map.
- Point the server at itIn Configuration Files, edit
Engine.iniand change the map field, for example toSavage_Wilds. - Start freshA different map needs a different world. Back up, and download the backup if you want to keep the old one, before you start the server on the new map.
Admin tools, bans, RCON and the database
Conan gives admins a full in-game panel plus remote tools for when you are not online. These are the ones we use most.
Make me Admin
Esc, Settings, Server Settings, Make me Admin, then the AdminPassword from ServerSettings.ini. The admin panel opens with Ctrl + Shift + C.
Web RCON
Pick a command, use List Players to find a player's ID, and run it without logging in. The same commands can run from Scheduled Tasks.
Any RCON tool
Server Details shows the RCON address and password. Funcom's RCON listens on TCP 25575 by default, set in Game.ini under [RconPlugin].
blacklist.txt
Add a player's Steam64 ID, one per line, with the server stopped. Find the ID by searching their name in ConanSandbox.log in Log Viewer.
Editing the database safely
Everything in your world, from bases to thralls, lives in the server's game database. To fix ownership or remove broken items by hand, stop the server, install Database Editor from the Mod Manager's Advanced Tools, run its Before Editing Sync option, then open it with the login under Server Details, Database Editor Details. Make your change, run After Editing Sync, and start the server. Take a backup first; a database edit cannot be undone.
Want a co-admin in the panel without sharing your login? Create a sub user and tick only the permissions they need; access to the service itself must be ticked or the server will not appear for them.
Who gets in: queues, whitelists, sleeping bodies and transfers
Beyond the join password, a handful of settings decide how players arrive when the server is full, what happens to their body when they log out and whether they can bring a character from elsewhere.
- EnableLoginQueue = True
- Holds players in a queue when the server is full instead of turning them away.
- DisconnectionGraceTime = 180
- The queue's grace period, in seconds, for a player who drops out; Funcom added both settings with the queue in update 2.8.
- LogoutCharactersRemainInTheWorld = True
- Logged-out characters stay asleep where they stood. Funcom once suggested False on busy servers to lighten the database.
- EnableWhitelist = False
- True admits only the players on your whitelist, a simple lock for a private clan server.
Bringing characters across
Funcom's character transfer lets players carry one stored character between servers, keeping level, inventory and followers, but not while they are in a clan. The cooldown is 24 hours on unofficial servers. On your server, ServerTransferEnabled switches it on or off and ServerTransferServersWhitelist lists the IP addresses and ports you accept characters from, so a community running two servers can let players move between them and nobody else.
Memory, slots and performance on our Conan Exiles plans
Buildings, thralls and mods are what fill a Conan server's memory as a map matures. Our plans differ by slots and memory; the hardware is the same on all of them. These figures come from the order form, checked on 16 October 2026.
- Slots: 20 to 70 players, in steps of ten.
- Memory: 10GB is included and 12GB, 14GB, 16GB, 20GB, 24GB and 32GB are paid tiers. Our order form recommends 12GB as the starting point for Enhanced.
- CPU: 5.0GHz included, with 5.2GHz+ and 5.6GHz+ upgrades and High or Realtime CPU priority.
- Storage: NVMe at 7,500MB/s with up to 100GB included, plenty for mods and backups.

What slows a Conan server
- Building sprawl: Funcom names building pieces, placeables and thralls as the main causes of server lag. Decay settings keep abandoned bases from piling up.
- Sky bases: since patch 2.1.0,
dw.DestroyPlaceableStabilityLoop=1under[/Script/ConanSandbox.SystemSettings]in Engine.ini removes self-supporting structures that cheat the stability system. - Thrall armies: followers stationed by the hundred cost far more than players; the population cap in the thralls chapter keeps them in check.
- Large mod lists: each mod adds items, buildings and scripts to load.
- Long uptime: restart at least twice a day to clear memory.
- Boot times: a big database lengthens every start; 3 to 10 minutes is normal on a well-settled map.
To change memory, slots or CPU priority, open the client area, Services, My Services, your server, Upgrade/Downgrade options. Upgrades raise an invoice for the difference and apply after a restart once paid; the world is not touched.
Restarts, warnings, backups and rollbacks
A predictable restart schedule with warnings, plus backups you can roll back to, turns a bad night into a five-minute fix.
Scheduled Restart
Every 12 hours, or 6 on a busy map: recur every 1 day, repeat for 24 hours. The time you set is server time.
Restart Message
A second task 15 minutes before each restart, synced to the same interval. It warns players and saves the world automatically.
Broadcast messages
The same Restart Message task with your own text on Script Parameters, repeated every 2 hours or so: rules, Discord, events.
Scheduled Backup
Stops the server, backs it up and starts it again, so it can double as a restart.
Rolling back a bad night
- Stop the serverRollbacks overwrite the world, so nobody should be online.
- Choose a snapshotPress Rollback Server, pick the snapshot date you want and confirm.
- Wait for it to finishKeep the window open until the process completes, then start the server and check before you announce it.
Older (legacy) servers use Restore Server instead, with backups numbered from 1, the most recent, up to 100, the oldest. Backup Manager lets you download copies to your own computer, which is worth doing before any map change or Enhanced update.
When something breaks: the fixes we reach for first
Most Conan Exiles tickets come down to a short list of causes. Check these before reinstalling anything.
- The server is not in the server listCheck serverRegion and that your region is allowed, then set the browser filters to show every server and tick Show Invalid Servers and, for mods, Show modded servers. The browser cannot list every server, so search by name, or use Direct Connect with the IP and port, which always works.
- It will not start, or loops on bootGive it 3 to 10 minutes first: a large database boots slowly. Still down? Restore the previous backup and try again, stepping back one at a time if needed; a corrupted database is the usual cause.
- It broke after the Enhanced updateA mod is not yet built for UE5. Restore your backup and remove mods until it starts, or ask support to move the server to the Legacy branch until your mods catch up.
- Players cannot join: version mismatchServer and players must be on the same build: Legacy players need a Legacy server, Enhanced players an Enhanced one, and everyone needs the same mod versions. Epic and Microsoft Store players are on Legacy.
- Console friends cannot see the serverConsoles stay on the Unreal Engine 4 version and Conan has no crossplay between PC and console, so console players cannot join a PC server.
- Settings do not change anythingThey were saved while the server ran, or a key is misspelt. Stop, correct, save, start.
- Make me Admin is refusedCheck AdminPassword in ServerSettings.ini, set it again with the server stopped, and restart.
- The mod order keeps resettingUpdates restore install order. Uninstall and reinstall the mods in the order you want them to load.
- Zero CPU and memory after StartNormal for 30 to 60 seconds while the panel makes a safety copy.
- Lag in the eveningsLook at building and thrall counts, trim mods, and restart at least twice a day before buying more memory.
Self-host or rent: what running your own takes
Funcom gives the dedicated server away free on Steam, for Windows and, since Enhanced, Linux too. Whether running it at home suits your clan depends on your hardware and who keeps it alive.
Self-hosting means installing Conan Exiles Enhanced Dedicated Server from Steam's tools or with SteamCMD (app 443030, anonymous login), or using Funcom's free Dedicated Server Launcher, which installs Enhanced by default and can fetch the Legacy branch. Then you forward the ports and keep the machine on.
- Game = 7777 UDP
- Set in Engine.ini under [URL] or with -Port.
- Pinger = 7778 UDP
- Always the game port plus one; the browser uses it to check the server is up.
- Server query = 27015 UDP
- PC only; set with -QueryPort.
- RCON = 25575 TCP
- Game.ini under [RconPlugin], or -RconPort.
On your own PC
- No monthly bill if you have spare hardware and a good upload.
- Full control of every file and port.
- Enhanced servers also need the -MULTIHOMEHTTP address set, or they do not register in the browser.
- The world is only online while your PC is.
Rented from Gaming Deluxe
- Online within 20 minutes, in 9 locations across the UK, Europe, the US and Australia.
- Workshop mods, rollbacks, restarts and backups from the panel.
- Enhanced by default, Legacy on request.
- A monthly cost that rises with slots and memory.
A few friends who always play together can share a home server happily. Once your clan logs in at all hours, or the map fills with bases, renting buys back the evenings. Plans are on our Conan Exiles Server Hosting page.
