RimWorld Together server hosting: a red-bearded colonist in a space suit stands with a raven above a planet among drifting asteroids

One planet, many colonies, all of your friends

RimWorld Together Server Hosting

RimWorld was made as a single-player story generator. RimWorld Together, a free community mod, turns it into a shared world: every player keeps their own colony and pace, but you live on the same planet and can trade, visit, raid and build roads to each other. RimWorld Together server hosting keeps that planet online around the clock, so the world carries on whoever is playing.

Mission control

Your RimWorld Together Server Hosting Control Panel

A RimWorld Together server is configured through a set of JSON files and a console. The panel gives you both in a browser, alongside backups and restarts.

Gaming Deluxe game server control panel with the server menu, connection details and Stop and Restart buttons

The Gaming Deluxe control panel, pictured with a Windrose server. RimWorld Together servers use the same panel and layout.

JSON config editor

Open ServerConfig.json, ActionConfigs.json and the rest in the File Manager, change a value and restart.

Server console

Run deeplist and op from the console to find players and make admins, without a remote desktop.

Backup Manager

Snapshot the whole planet before a mod list change and restore it if the world does not load.

SFTP access

Move a planet from another server, or download a copy of your world, over SFTP.

Restarts on a timer

Schedule a daily restart at a quiet hour; the mod also takes a backup each time the server launches if you enable it.

Sub users

Give a co-host their own panel login with only the rights they need.

RimWorld Together in 2026: 1.6 Today, 1.7 Next

RimWorld itself left Early Access on 17 October 2018. RimWorld Together has been on the Steam Workshop since July 2023 and is updated often: the team's GitHub release on 20 October 2026 was the first to fully support RimWorld's 1.7 unstable branch.

01

Moving to 1.7

Release 26.10.20.1 added compatibility with the 1.7 unstable version of the game. The team says future versions target 1.7, and 1.6 becomes legacy content.

02

Last 1.6 release

Release 26.10.15.1 is the last version the team supports for 1.6. It added join codes, server pictures in the browser and a much better mod downloader.

03

Automatic mod downloads

Since 26.10.4.1 players are offered the mods a server needs when they join, and 26.10.15.1 says the downloader now applies everything needed to connect.

04

Odyssey support

Release 26.8.31.1 brought full compatibility with Odyssey's asteroids and full planet river sync.

Mods & world sync

Mods, DLCs and Sync Options for RimWorld Together Server Hosting

The mod's Workshop page says players can play together regardless of mods or DLCs, and the server decides which mod list is enforced. Here is what you control.

Mods

Enforced mod list

ModConfig.json sets the server's mod list, either when you create the server or from the in-game admin panel, which the wiki recommends. Admins can bypass the restriction.

Join with the right mods

The mod downloader offers players what the server needs when they join, so fewer people bounce off a mismatch.

World rules

Biotech pollution

With EnablePollutionSpread on, players who own Biotech can spread pollution to every tile, which affects the whole planet.

Activities and spying

ActionConfigs.json switches offline visiting and raiding on or off, along with spying on offline players and its cost.

Factions, roads and sites

Player factions, user-built roads and sites each have their own switch, and RoadConfig.json and SiteConfig.json set their costs and rewards.

Windows, macOS and Linux

RimWorld runs on all three, and the mod's server is published for Windows and Linux on x86 and ARM.

Memory to spare

RAM for RimWorld Together Server Hosting

Each colony is simulated on its player's own PC; the server keeps the shared planet, settlements and exchanges between players. The project's README says the server has no heavy hardware dependencies and only needs excellent bandwidth and a bit of everything else, which is why the 10GB included tier is plenty.

  • A handful of friends

    Enough?: Many times over.

  • A public planet with dozens of colonies

    Plan: 100 Slots

Enough?: Yes. Bandwidth matters more than memory for this server.

Memory tiers on the order form: 10GB, 12GB, 14GB, 16GB, 20GB, 24GB and 32GB. You can change tier later from the client area and keep your world.

RimWorld Together Server Hosting Features

Why a hosted planet beats running the server on your own PC.

A planet that never sleeps

Friends can trade, visit and send caravans while your PC is switched off.

Whitelist your group

WhitelistConfig.json lets only the players you add by UID onto the planet.

Your world rules

Turn raiding, spying, pollution spread and NPC destruction on or off for everyone.

Two layers of backup

The mod's own timed backups plus our 7 days of offsite copies.

No home port forwarding

The server has its own address, so nobody opens ports on their router.

Listed or private

Show the server in the in-game browser, share a join code, or keep it to a direct address.

Before you land

RimWorld Together Server Hosting Essentials Before You Order

Four things to settle before the first colonists land.

  1. Match the game version

From 26.10.20.1 the mod targets RimWorld 1.7 unstable, and 26.10.15.1 is the last release supported for 1.6. Agree with your group which branch you play and keep the server on the matching release.

  2. Decide the mod list early

The server enforces one mod list. Changing it on a running planet can upset existing colonies, so settle it before people settle.

  3. Make yourself admin

Join once, run deeplist in the server console to see your UID or name, then op yourself. In game, dev mode opens the admin panel.

  4. It is not shared-colony co-op

Everyone runs their own colony at their own pace. The wiki lists real-time play on the same world tiles as planned, not available yet.

Answers

RimWorld Together Server Hosting Questions

What RimWorld players ask before renting a server.

How it works

What is RimWorld Together?

A free, open source multiplayer mod for RimWorld. Players share one planet at the same time but keep separate colonies and their own pace, and can visit, raid, trade, form factions and build roads between settlements.

Can we play in the same colony?

No. The mod is built around separate colonies on a shared world. Its wiki lists real-time syncing directly on world tiles as something the team is working on.

Does everyone need RimWorld?

Yes. Each player needs their own copy of RimWorld plus the RimWorld Together mod, from the Steam Workshop, GitHub or the in-game download menu.

Mods and versions

Can we use other mods and DLCs?

Yes. The Workshop page says players can play together regardless of mods or DLCs. The server enforces a mod list through ModConfig.json, and the mod downloader helps joining players get what they need.

Which RimWorld version does the server support?

Release 26.10.20.1 of 20 October 2026 is the first to fully support RimWorld 1.7 unstable, and the team says future releases target 1.7. Release 26.10.15.1 is the last one supported for 1.6. Ask support if you need a particular release.

How do players join?

Through the in-game server browser if you enable it in ServerBrowserConfig.json, with a join code, or with the IP and port from our panel.

Running the server

How do I make myself an admin?

Join the server, run deeplist in the server console to find your UID, then use op with your UID or, on newer versions, your username. Turn on dev mode in game to reach the admin panel.

Can I keep the server private?

Yes. Add players to WhitelistConfig.json by UID and leave the server browser off, so only your group can join.

Does the server back itself up?

It can. BackupConfig.json turns on automatic backups, sets the interval in hours and also backs up at every launch. Our offsite backups of the last 7 days come on top.

Billing

How much does RimWorld Together server hosting cost?

The plan is €10.03 a month for 100 slots with 10GB of RAM, at any location.

Why only one plan?

The mod's server is very light and our order form sells one slot size for it, so a single plan with plenty of memory covers groups of any size.

Is there a minimum term?

No. Monthly billing can be cancelled any time, with 3, 6 and 12 month terms also on the order form.

How RimWorld Together Turns a Solo Game Into a Shared Planet

RimWorld is Ludeon Studios' colony sim, driven by an AI storyteller that deals out raids, storms and traders to build a story around your crash-landed survivors. It was designed for one player. RimWorld Together, a free community mod first published on the Steam Workshop in July 2023, keeps that loop intact and adds other people to the planet.

Every player runs their own colony, at their own speed, on their own PC. What is shared is the world map: settlements appear for everyone, and the Workshop page says that almost every action around the planet is synced, including visiting, raiding, trading, creating factions, roads and sites. The result feels like a living RimWorld planet where the neighbours are real.

  • Trading: send items and pawns to other players.
  • Events: send events to other colonies, for a price in silver set by the server.
  • Visits and raids: go to another colony, even while its owner is offline if the server allows it.
  • World changes: roads, sites, player factions, and with Biotech, pollution that spreads to every tile.

What the Server Does and Why Hosting Helps

The server is the planet's memory. It stores who has settled where, passes trades and events between colonies, enforces the mod list and the rules, and keeps the world consistent as players come and go. The colonies themselves run on each player's PC, which is why the project's README says the server has no heavy hardware needs and above all wants excellent network bandwidth.

You can run it at home, but then the planet is only there while your PC is on, and you have to forward ports for everyone else. A hosted server is up all day, has its own address, and keeps working when the person who set it up is on holiday. That matters for a game where friends play at different hours and expect their caravan to arrive.

First Setup: Name, Admins and Who Can Join

Most settings live in ServerConfig.json. Give the server a name of up to 40 characters and a description of up to 200, set MaxPlayers, and leave IP at 0.0.0.0, which the wiki recommends. The Temporal protection values set cooldowns between activities, events, aid and spying, which stops one player flooding another with raids.

  1. Start the server once from the panel so it creates its config files.
  2. Edit ServerConfig.json and save it.
  3. Join the server from RimWorld with the mod enabled.
  4. In the server console, run deeplist to find your UID, then op yourself.
  5. Turn on dev mode in game to open the admin panel in the top-right corner.

For a private group, add each friend's UID to WhitelistConfig.json and keep the server browser off. For a public planet, set EnableServerBrowser to true in ServerBrowserConfig.json and give it your server's public address. Since release 26.10.15.1 players can also join with a code, and servers can show a picture in the browser.

Setting the Rules of Your Planet

ActionConfigs.json is where a planet gets its character. A cosy group might switch off raiding and spying and keep trading, roads and aid. A competitive server might allow offline raids, spying at a cost and the destruction of NPC settlements, which removes them for every player.

Key switches in ActionConfigs.json
SettingValueWhat it does
EnableActivitiestrue / falseOffline visiting and raiding of other colonies.
EnableTradingtrue / falseSending items between players.
EnablesSpyingtrue / falseSpying on offline players, priced by SpyCost.
EnableNPCDestructiontrue / falseLets players permanently destroy NPC settlements for everyone.
EnforcedGameSpeed0 = no limitForces one game speed on all players.

Difficulty, scenario and storyteller can be enforced too, through DifficultyConfig.json, ScenarioConfig.json and StoryTellerConfig.json. The wiki recommends setting these from the in-game admin panel rather than by hand. Each event players can send to each other has its own file with a silver cost and an IsEnabled switch.

Mods, DLCs and Game Versions

RimWorld players rarely play vanilla, and the mod is built for that: its Workshop page says players can play together regardless of mods or DLCs. The server holds the official mod list in ModConfig.json. Set it when you create the server or from the admin panel, and admins can bypass it for testing.

Version is the thing to watch. Until October 2026 the mod targeted RimWorld 1.6, and its last release supported for 1.6 is 26.10.15.1. From 26.10.20.1 the mod targets the 1.7 unstable branch. If your group stays on 1.6, keep the server on the matching release; if you move to 1.7, move together and expect the bugs that come with an unstable branch, which the team itself warns about.

Backups and Keeping a Planet for the Long Run

BackupConfig.json turns on the mod's own automatic backups, sets how many hours apart they are, and keeps a backup each time the server launches. AutomaticDeletion and Amount stop old copies filling the disk. Our offsite backups of the last 7 days sit on top of that, so you have two independent ways back.

Long-running planets do best with a few habits: a daily restart at a quiet hour, a short message of the day in ChatConfig.json explaining the rules, and a clear note when the mod list or version is about to change. Login and disconnect notifications help a small group see who is around for a trade.

Moving a Planet From Your PC or Another Host

The server keeps its user files together, so moving is a copy job. Stop the old server, download its data folder, upload it here over SFTP and start the server. Check ServerConfig.json afterwards: the IP should stay 0.0.0.0, and the port must match what the panel shows. Players then reconnect to the new address or find the server in the browser.

What to Compare Before You Rent a RimWorld Together Server

The server is light, so the details around it matter more than raw specs.

  1. Config file accessAll of the planet's rules live in JSON files; make sure you can edit every one.
  2. Console accessYou need the server console for deeplist and op, or you cannot make admins.
  3. Version helpAsk whether the host can keep you on the release that matches your RimWorld version.
  4. Bandwidth and locationThe README stresses bandwidth; pick a nearby location on a solid network.
  5. BackupsLook for offsite backups you can restore yourself, as well as the mod's own.
  6. TermsMonthly billing with no setup fee lets your group try a planet first.
