What Spearhead Adds to Allied Assault
Medal of Honor: Allied Assault Spearhead is an expansion to Allied Assault, the Second World War shooter that EA built with the Quake III engine. GOG's description of the campaign follows the last year of the war on the European front: parachuting behind enemy lines during Operation Overlord, holding back the German offensive at the Battle of the Bulge, and advancing on Berlin.
For multiplayer, the important point is that Spearhead is its own game on the server side. A Spearhead server runs the expansion, and the players who join it need Spearhead installed, not only the base game. That is why our order form sells Allied Assault, Spearhead and Breakthrough as three separate products. Before you order, check which of the three your group actually plays together.
What Changed When EA Ended Online Services
EA's Online Services Shutdown list has a single entry that covers the family: 30 June 2014, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault for PC and Mac, including the Breakthrough and Spearhead expansions. GOG's store page for the War Chest puts the result plainly: the publisher no longer supports the game's multiplayer servers, and the only official option is LAN, with no CD key required.
In practice, what disappeared was the publisher's side of multiplayer, such as the server list that used to show every public game. What remains is the game itself, which players can still buy on GOG, and servers that communities run and share by address. A rented Spearhead server is one of those. We will not pretend it puts you back in an official list: players reach it because you give them its address.

Getting Your Players Onto the Server
Without a public list, how players find you becomes your job, and it is a simple one. After setup, the panel shows the server's IP and port. Post them wherever your group talks, whether that is a Discord channel, a forum thread or a pinned message, and ask players to save the server as a favourite so they never have to type it again.
- Check the install: each player needs Spearhead installed and working, including any patches your group has agreed on.
- Match the files: if the server runs custom maps, share the same files so players can load them.
- Start the server first: make sure the panel shows it online before anyone tries to connect.
- Password if needed: a join password keeps a clan night to your clan.
Because nobody stumbles onto the server by accident, a Spearhead server tends to be a community of regulars. That is easy to look after: you know who plays, and you can agree changes before you make them.
Sizing the Server for Your Group
We show four sizes from the order form: 12, 16, 24 and 32 slots. Twelve is six against six, the classic size for an organised match; sixteen suits a regular group; twenty-four gives the open maps more life; thirty-two is for the nights when everyone turns up. The order form goes all the way to 64 if your community is larger, and you can change the size from the client area whenever you like.
Every plan includes 5GB of RAM, a 5.0GHz CPU and NVMe storage, which is far more than a game of Spearhead's age needs. That is deliberate: memory is never the reason a Spearhead server struggles, so you only pay more for slots.
Configs, Rotations and Community Maps
You set the server's name, password and map rotation in its config files, which you edit in the browser in the panel's Configuration Files section. Our rule for every game applies: stop the server, save the change, start it again. Changes saved while it runs are not picked up. If the server does not come back as expected, the log viewer shows the console as it loads, and a mistyped map name is usually easy to spot there.
Many long-running groups have favourite community maps. Upload them with SFTP, using a client such as WinSCP or FileZilla, or with the panel's File Manager, then add them to the rotation. Players need the same map files installed, so share them before the night you plan to use them.
Looking After an Old Server
With EA's services finished, nothing changes under a Spearhead server from one month to the next, which makes it pleasantly low maintenance. A few habits keep it that way:
- Take a backup of a clean, working setup before you change anything.
- Schedule a restart in quiet hours, so a long-running server starts each evening fresh.
- Keep a copy of your config files and map list off the server too, by downloading them over SFTP.
- Change one thing at a time, so you always know what to undo.
Each start begins with an offsite clone of the server for data protection, so the panel can briefly show 0 CPU and memory. That is normal. If something looks wrong for longer, open a ticket; our support team answers around the clock.
What to Check Before You Rent a Medal of Honor Spearhead Server
For a classic game without an official server list, check these.
- The right productMake sure the server runs Spearhead, not the base game or Breakthrough.
- A clear connection addressYou need a fixed IP and port to share with your group.
- File accessSFTP or a file manager for configs and community maps.
- Honest informationA host should tell you plainly that EA's online services ended in 2014.
