Empyrion in 2026: Version 1.19 and What Comes Next

Empyrion entered Early Access on 5 August 2015 and left it with version 1.0 on 5 August 2020. Eleon is still updating the game every few months, and 2026 has brought new points of interest, trading and a rework of status effects.

Version 1.19 and the Arkenian Republic

Version 1.19 arrived for the game's 11th anniversary on 4 August 2026. Its 1.19.5 update on 23 September added more than 100 Arkenian Republic points of interest and a first version of Trade Lines, followed by the 1.19.6 hotfix on 24 September.

Updating your server

When a patch goes live, players cannot join an older server. Save and shut down through Server Manager, run Steam Update in the panel and start the galaxy again.

Scenarios & crossplay

Scenarios, Mods and Crossplay for Empyrion: Galactic Survival Server Hosting

Empyrion's Steam Workshop is full of ship and base blueprints and complete scenarios, and Eleon supports a mod API on the dedicated server. Since the Epic Games Store release in October 2024, Steam and Epic players can also share a galaxy.

Scenarios

Workshop scenarios

A scenario replaces the standard galaxy with its own systems, factions and content. Upload it to the server's Content/Scenarios folder and point dedicated.yaml at it.

Large scenarios and SharedData

Eleon added a SharedDataURL option so players download a big scenario's shared data from cloud storage instead of the server, which saves server bandwidth.

Mod API and admin tools

Server mods built on Eleon's mod API go in Content/Mods. Empyrion Admin Helper (EAH), which has its own section on the official forum, connects to your server over FTP and Telnet.

Crossplay

Steam and Epic crossplay

Eleon's notes say crossplay works between the Steam and Epic versions for co-op once accounts are linked, and Epic players can join any publicly visible Steam dedicated server.

Epic player IDs

Epic players have their own platform ID, which is what you use in AdminConfig.yaml and for bans, kicks and mutes.

PC only

Empyrion is a Windows PC game on Steam and the Epic Games Store. There is no console version.

Memory per plan

RAM for Empyrion: Galactic Survival Server Hosting: How Much You Need

Eleon has not published server hardware requirements; the game itself asks for 10GB of RAM and recommends 16GB. Server memory grows with how many planets, moons and orbits are in use at once, so the RAM in each plan is our own sizing: 10GB on 14 slots, rising to 20GB on 64.

  • Up to 14 players, mostly together

    Plan: 14 Slots
    RAM included: 10GB

When to add more: Rarely, unless the group splits across many playfields or runs a big scenario.

  • 15 to 24 players, a few factions

    Plan: 24 Slots
    RAM included: 12GB

When to add more: If players settle on several planets at once, 14GB or 16GB gives headroom.

  • 25 to 32 players, spread across systems

    Plan: 32 Slots
    RAM included: 14GB

When to add more: Large scenarios with many points of interest are happier on 16GB to 20GB.

  • 33 to 48 players, public server

    Plan: 48 Slots
    RAM included: 16GB

When to add more: Busy evenings with players in many places at once can use 20GB or 24GB.

  • 49 to 64 players, big public galaxy

    Plan: 64 Slots
    RAM included: 20GB

When to add more: The busiest galaxies can go to 24GB or 32GB.

RAM tiers on the order form: 10GB, 12GB, 14GB, 16GB, 20GB, 24GB and 32GB. You can upgrade later from the client area and the galaxy stays where it is.

Before the first warp

Empyrion: Galactic Survival Server Hosting Essentials Before You Order

Five things that make the first week smoother.

  1. Save before you stop

Use Save and Shutdown in Server Manager before a restart, so nothing built in the last minutes is lost.

  2. Choose PvE or PvP early

Decide whether the whole galaxy, or only certain playfields, allows PvP before players settle in.

  3. Scenarios mean a fresh start

Switching scenario is a new galaxy. Back up the old save first if you might want to return to it.

  4. Charging players

Eleon's server monetisation rules allow fees and donations, but paid perks need a clear note that the server is not run by Eleon.

  5. Ports are open

Our network already has the game ports open. Share the address from the panel and players connect from the server browser or by IP.

Answers

Empyrion: Galactic Survival Server Hosting Questions

Answers to what new Empyrion server owners ask us most.

Getting started

How quickly is my Empyrion server ready?

It is created automatically once payment clears, usually within 20 minutes, and your panel login arrives by email.

How do I change the server name and password?

Stop the server, open dedicated.yaml with the Configuration Editor, change the name and password fields, save and start again.

How do I connect Server Manager?

Enable Telnet in dedicated.yaml, then use the Telnet Details button in the panel for the address, port and password, and enter them in Server Manager.

Which location should I choose?

Run the ping test on this page from your own PC and pick the lowest result for most of your players. All 9 locations cost the same.

Players, crossplay and scenarios

How many players can an Empyrion server hold?

Eleon sets no fixed maximum; the player limit is a setting in dedicated.yaml. Our plans run from 14 to 64 slots, with memory rising from 10GB to 20GB as the plans grow.

Can Epic Games Store players join?

Yes. Eleon's notes say Epic players can join any publicly visible Steam dedicated server, and Steam and Epic players can play co-op together once their accounts are linked.

Can I run Reforged Eden or another Workshop scenario?

Yes. Scenarios such as Reforged Eden are made by the community and published on the Steam Workshop. Upload the scenario to Content/Scenarios, select it in dedicated.yaml and start a new game.

Is there a console version?

No. Empyrion is a Windows PC game on Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Saves, wipes and updates

How do I wipe the galaxy for a new season?

Stop the server, press Wipe Server in the panel, choose what to wipe and confirm. Take a backup first if you want to keep the old galaxy.

What happens when Empyrion updates?

Save and shut down with Server Manager, run Steam Update in the panel and start the server, so it matches the players' new version.

How are backups handled?

Our Backup Manager takes snapshots whenever you ask, and we keep offsite copies for the last 7 days.

Billing and plans

How much does Empyrion: Galactic Survival server hosting cost?

The 14 slot plan is the cheapest at £9.66 a month. The plans above show every option for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months, and longer cycles lower the monthly price.

Can I upgrade later?

Yes. Add slots or memory from the client area as the community grows, and the galaxy stays on the same server.

Do I need a contract?

No. Monthly billing renews each month and can be cancelled at any time. The 3, 6 and 12 month cycles are paid upfront for a lower rate.

Why Host an Empyrion Galaxy on a Dedicated Server

Empyrion games tend to be long. A faction starts on a planet, builds a base, launches small vessels, and weeks later is warping capital vessels between systems. In a hosted co-op game all of that depends on one player's PC being on. A dedicated server keeps the galaxy online for everyone, so a player in another time zone can run a mining trip while the rest are asleep.

Eleon supplies a free standalone dedicated server through SteamCMD, and we run it for you on fast hardware with a fixed address. You keep full control of the configuration file, the scenario and the save, and you get Telnet access for admin tools without opening ports at home.

Empyrion Today: 1.0, Epic and the 1.19 Updates

Empyrion spent five years in Early Access before Eleon released version 1.0 on 5 August 2020. The Dark Faction DLC followed on 6 February 2024, adding a story scenario, new blocks and devices, and on 10 October 2024 the game launched on the Epic Games Store, with both versions updated together.

  • v1.16, 25 March 2026: more points of interest and Charged Combat Steel.
  • v1.18, 8 July 2026: a rework of status effects.
  • v1.19, 4 August 2026: the 11th anniversary update.
  • v1.19.5, 23 September 2026: more than 100 Arkenian Republic points of interest and a first version of Trade Lines.
  • v1.19.6, 24 September 2026: the latest hotfix at the time of writing.

PvE, PvP and Choosing a Plan

According to Eleon's FAQ, you can make a whole game PvE or PvP, or set individual planets and orbits to one or the other. A popular pattern is safe starter planets with contested systems further out, which lets new players settle before they meet hostile factions.

Eleon does not publish a fixed player cap; the limit is a setting in dedicated.yaml. What drives server load more than player count is how spread out players are. A group that sticks together keeps few playfields active, while a public server with players on many planets and in many orbits at the same time keeps many of them busy. That is why memory rises with each plan: 10GB on 14 slots, 12GB on 24, 14GB on 32, 16GB on 48 and 20GB on 64.

If the memory graph in the panel sits near the limit on your busiest evenings, step up a tier from the client area. The order form goes up to 32GB.

Configuring dedicated.yaml

The server's settings live in dedicated.yaml, and Eleon's patch notes point owners to the comments in that file for what each option does. In our panel you edit it with the Configuration Editor while the server is stopped.

SettingWhat it controls
Srv_NameThe name shown in the server browser
Srv_PasswordA join password for private galaxies
Srv_MaxPlayersHow many players can be online at once
Tel_EnabledTurns on Telnet for Server Manager and admin tools
EACActiveWhether Easy Anti-Cheat is enforced
SharedDataURLWhere players download a large scenario's shared data
GameName, Mode and SeedThe save name, survival or creative, and the galaxy seed

Scenarios, Blueprints and Mods

The Steam Workshop carries tens of thousands of blueprints for capital vessels, small vessels, hover vessels and bases, plus hundreds of single player and multiplayer scenarios. Reforged Eden is the best-known community scenario; it is made by community authors, not by Eleon, and its current version, Reforged Eden 2, is still marked as beta.

  1. Subscribe to the scenario on the Workshop and find its folder on your PC.
  2. Stop the server and upload the folder to Content/Scenarios with SFTP.
  3. Select the scenario in dedicated.yaml and set a new game name.
  4. For a large scenario, set SharedDataURL so players fetch its shared data from cloud storage.
  5. Start the server and watch the log until the galaxy is ready.

Server mods built on Eleon's mod API sit in Content/Mods, and Eleon ships interface updates with the game. Players on the Epic version could not use Workshop content when Epic support launched in 2024, so check your scenario works for everyone in a mixed group.

Admins, Telnet and Empyrion Admin Helper

Admin rights and ban lists are kept in AdminConfig.yaml, using each player's Steam or Epic ID. For running the server day to day, two tools do most of the work.

  • Server Manager: connects over Telnet. Enable Telnet in dedicated.yaml, copy the details from the Telnet Details button, and use it to chat, save and shut down cleanly.
  • Empyrion Admin Helper (EAH): a fuller admin suite with its own section on the official forum. It connects with your server's FTP and Telnet details, and our knowledge base walks through the set-up.
  • Logs: the Log Viewer shows the dedicated and playfield logs, the first place to look when a playfield will not load.

If you plan to charge for perks or accept donations, read Eleon's server monetisation rules first. Fees and donations are allowed, but removed features may not be sold back, and paid perks need a clear disclaimer that the server is not associated with Eleon.

Saves, Wipes and Updates

Before any restart or update, use Save and Shutdown in Server Manager, so the galaxy writes its latest state. Then run Steam Update in the panel and start the server. Players on the new client cannot join an older server, so updating promptly after a patch keeps everyone together.

For a new season, the Wipe Server button resets what you choose without a reinstall. Our Backup Manager takes snapshots whenever you ask and offsite copies cover the last 7 days, so a wipe or a failed update never has to be final.

What to Compare Before You Rent an Empyrion Server

Empyrion hosting offers can look identical. These points decide how the galaxy runs once players spread out.

  1. Memory for many playfieldsPlayers on several planets at once need more memory than the slot count suggests. Check what each plan includes.
  2. Access to dedicated.yamlYou should be able to edit the config yourself, including Telnet, the scenario and the game mode.
  3. Telnet for admin toolsServer Manager and Empyrion Admin Helper both need Telnet details from your host.
  4. Upload access for scenariosSFTP matters when a scenario is hundreds of megabytes.
  5. Backups and wipesLook for snapshots you can restore yourself and a simple way to wipe for a new season.
  6. Billing termsCompare monthly and longer cycles, and check for setup fees or minimum terms.
