Astroneer Server Hosting

Astroneer server hosting for crews who are tired of waiting for the host to come online. A dedicated server keeps the save running, so the rails, the smelters and that tunnel halfway to the core are exactly where everyone left them, with room for eight players instead of four.

Astroneer Server Hosting Plans and Prices

Every plan holds the full crew of eight, the most an Astroneer dedicated server accepts. What changes from plan to plan is memory: start on the free tier with a fresh save, then pick more RAM as the bases, the rail network and the automation grow. Paying for 3, 6 or 12 months lowers the monthly price.

Mission control

The Astroneer Server Hosting Control Panel

An Astroneer server is set up through two ini files and a folder of saves. The panel keeps all three a click away, next to start and stop, backups and Steam updates, so nobody needs remote desktop.

Gaming Deluxe game server control panel with the server menu, connection details and Stop and Restart buttons

The Gaming Deluxe control panel, pictured with a Windrose server. Astroneer servers use the same panel and menu.

Configuration Files

Open AstroServerSettings.ini to set the owner, the public address and the active save, without downloading a thing.

File Manager and SFTP

Drop a save from your PC into the SaveGames folder. Big saves upload faster over SFTP.

Steam Update

Fetch System Era's newest server build after a monthly patch, so players on the new version can join.

Backup Manager

Snapshot the save before a Megastructure or a rail rebuild, then roll back in a few clicks if it goes wrong.

Scheduler

Restart in the quiet hours and keep updates on a timetable. Our knowledge base suggests at least two restarts a day.

Log Viewer and Sub-Users

Stream or download the server log, and give a co-owner their own panel login instead of your password.

Patches and expansions

Astroneer in 2026: Monthly Patches and Two Expansions

System Era has kept Astroneer moving long after 1.0. Both paid expansions now run on dedicated servers, and 2026 brought a patch every month. Patch 1.45.1 on 14 October 2026 is the newest at the time of writing.

01

Server builds track the game

When dedicated servers launched, System Era promised that self-hosted servers get the same updates as the game. After a patch, run Steam Update and restart so the whole crew is on one build.

02

Glitchwalkers on a server

Glitchwalkers came out on 13 November 2024 and gained dedicated server support on 26 February 2025. On a server whose save sits in the Aeoluz system, every player who joins must own the expansion.

03

Megatech saves

Megatech arrived on 20 November 2025. The moment a save deploys a Construction Anchor for a Biodome, Orbital Platform or Museum, it counts as a Megatech save, and every joining player needs the DLC. Take a backup before that first anchor.

04

Still on the roadmap

System Era plans monthly updates until at least the end of 2026 and says a content update is being prepared for the game's tenth anniversary in December.

Read before you order

Platforms, DLC and Mods on Astroneer Server Hosting

Read this before you order. System Era sets the rules for who can join a dedicated server, and they depend on who runs it. Here is how they apply to a server rented from us.

Who can join

PC players on Steam

The dedicated server is a Steam tool and its owner is set by Steam name, so Steam players on PC join by entering the server's address in game.

PlayStation 4

System Era's server FAQ says PS4 players can connect to any Astroneer dedicated server, including one hosted with us.

Xbox needs a partner server

The same FAQ says Xbox consoles cannot connect to a server someone runs on their own. Full cross play for every platform is reserved for System Era's official server partners, so an Xbox crew should not choose this page.

Achievements and cosmetics

System Era's update 1.12 notes say only its partner servers let players unlock achievements and cosmetics on a server. If your crew is chasing achievements, plan around that.

DLC and mods

Expansion saves

Aeoluz saves need Glitchwalkers and Megatech saves need Megatech for every player who joins. A base game save stays open to the whole crew.

No official mod support

Astroneer has no Workshop, and System Era states that it does not officially support mods. Modded saves are likely to crash after updates, and tampering with unlocks is a bannable offence.

Memory for your save

RAM for Astroneer Server Hosting, Sized by Save

System Era publishes no memory figures for the dedicated server. With the crew capped at eight, memory follows the save rather than the player count: how many planets you have reshaped, how much runs on rails and automation, and whether Megastructures are in play. The free 5GB tier is the starting point; these are our own sizing notes.

  • New save, first planets

    Plan: 8 Players, 5GB
    RAM included: 5GB

When to move up: Rarely early on. Check the memory graph once the base spreads to a second world.

  • Several bases, rails and automation

    Plan: 8 Players, 8GB
    RAM included: 8GB

When to move up: When long rail lines and busy production chains are loaded at the same time.

  • Late game, Megatech structures

    Plan: 8 Players, 12GB
    RAM included: 12GB

When to move up: Old saves with every planet worked over. Larger tiers stay available on the order form.

Memory tiers on the order form: 5GB, 8GB, 12GB, 16GB, 20GB, 24GB and 32GB. Change tier later from the client area and the save stays where it is.

Before launch

Astroneer Server Hosting Essentials Before You Order

Five things to settle before the first launch.

  1. Check everyone's platform

Steam players and PS4 players can join our servers. Xbox players cannot, so ask your crew first.

  2. Achievements

System Era's notes tie achievement and cosmetic unlocks on servers to its partner servers. Decide whether that matters to you.

  3. Set the owner

Put your Steam name in OwnerName and leave OwnerGuid at 0. The first player who joins with that name becomes the owner.

  4. Stop before editing

Changes made to the ini files while the server is running are not saved.

  5. DLC saves need DLC

An Aeoluz or Megatech save locks out anyone without that expansion. Keep a base game save if part of the crew does not own it.

Answers

Astroneer Server Hosting FAQ

Straight answers to what new Astroneer server owners ask most.

Getting started

How quickly is my Astroneer server ready?

It is created automatically once your payment clears, usually within 20 minutes, and the panel login arrives by email. Set the owner, start the server and share the address.

How do my friends join the server?

They open the dedicated server tab in Astroneer's menu and add the server's IP address and port, both shown in the panel. Our network already has the port open, so nobody has to touch a router.

Can I upload the save I started at home?

Yes. Stop the server and upload the file to the SaveGames folder. The name must follow Astroneer's pattern, such as MYSAVE$2019.05.04-01.20.07.savegame, and the active save setting in AstroServerSettings.ini takes everything before the $ sign. Start the server and the save loads.

How do I make myself the owner?

Stop the server, set OwnerName to your exact Steam name and OwnerGuid to 0 in AstroServerSettings.ini, then start it and join. The server records your unique ID the first time you connect. To hand ownership over, swap in the other player's Steam name.

Players and platforms

How many players can join an Astroneer server?

Eight. System Era raised the limit to eight for dedicated servers in update 1.12, while a co-op game hosted from someone's own copy holds 2 to 4 players.

Can Xbox or PlayStation players join?

PlayStation 4 players can: System Era's FAQ says they can connect to any Astroneer dedicated server. Xbox players cannot join a server like ours, because the same FAQ only allows Xbox on servers from System Era's official partners.

Do achievements unlock on a hosted server?

Plan on no. When servers launched, System Era's notes said its partner servers are the only servers where players unlock achievements and cosmetics. Your research, bases and progress are kept in the save as normal.

Can we run mods?

Astroneer has no official mod support and no Workshop. System Era warns that modded saves are likely to crash after updates and that it cannot repair them, so a server is best kept vanilla.

Expansions and updates

Do Glitchwalkers and Megatech work on a dedicated server?

Yes. Both run on dedicated servers, with one condition: every player who joins an Aeoluz save must own Glitchwalkers, and every player who joins a Megatech save must own Megatech.

What happens when Astroneer updates?

Players who update first cannot join an older server, so run Steam Update in the panel and restart. System Era released patches monthly through 2026, so make it part of the routine.

Are backups included?

Yes. We keep offsite copies for the last 7 days, and the Backup Manager lets you take and restore snapshots yourself, for example before deploying a Megatech anchor.

Plans and billing

How much does Astroneer server hosting cost?

The 5GB plan is the cheapest, at £4.80 a month. The plans table shows each plan for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months, and the longer terms cost less per month.

Why do all three plans have 8 slots?

Eight is the most an Astroneer dedicated server allows, so every plan gets the full crew. The plans differ only in memory, which is what a growing save actually needs.

Can I cancel at any time?

Yes. The monthly cycle renews month by month and you can cancel whenever you like. The 3, 6 and 12 month cycles are paid upfront at a lower monthly rate.

Why an Astroneer Crew Rents a Server

Astroneer's co-op is built around a host. One player starts the save, the others drop in, and when the host quits the session ends for everyone. That works for an evening, but it is a poor fit for a crew whose members play at different hours, because half the solar system ends up waiting for one person's PC.

A dedicated server removes the host from the picture. System Era released the ASTRONEER Dedicated Server with update 1.12 in May 2020, and it keeps a save running without anyone playing on the machine. It also raises the crew size: co-op hosted from a player's game holds 2 to 4 people, while the dedicated server takes eight.

You can run that tool yourself, and System Era documents how. It means forwarding a port on your router, opening it in your firewall and leaving a Windows PC on day and night. System Era also says it cannot help with networks, firewalls or ports for home servers. Renting moves all of that into a data centre with a fixed address and a support team.

Platforms, Partners and Achievements

Astroneer runs on PC, Xbox, PlayStation and Switch, but not every version can reach every server. System Era separates two kinds: servers from its official partners, which carry full cross play, and servers that someone runs on their own, which is what a Gaming Deluxe server is.

Who can join a server you rent from us, per System Era's server FAQ and update notes
PlayerCan join?Notes
PC on SteamYesThe server is a Steam tool; the owner is set by Steam name
PlayStation 4YesSystem Era: PS4 players can connect to any dedicated server
XboxNoOnly allowed on official partner servers
Nintendo SwitchNot coveredSystem Era's server FAQ does not list Switch

Achievements need the same care. System Era's update 1.12 notes state that its partner servers are the only way to play on a server and still unlock cosmetics and achievements. Everything your crew researches, prints and builds is still saved, so the game itself plays the same; the difference is the Steam and console trophies.

First Setup: Owner, Address and Port

System Era's own instructions use two files in the server's Config folder. Engine.ini holds the port the server listens on, and AstroServerSettings.ini holds the public IP players type in, the owner and the active save. On our servers the port and address come preset, so the job that is left is choosing an owner.

  1. Stop the server in the panel. Astroneer throws away ini changes made while it runs.
  2. Open AstroServerSettings.ini in Configuration Files.
  3. Set OwnerName to your exact Steam name and OwnerGuid to 0.
  4. Save, start the server and connect. You become the owner, and your unique ID is written into the file.
  5. To pass ownership on later, replace the name with the new owner's Steam name; their ID is recorded when they next join.

Moving a Save onto the Server

Most crews arrive with a save already in progress. Astroneer stores server saves in the SaveGames folder, and the file name has two halves split by a dollar sign: the save name on the left, a date and time on the right. System Era's example is MYSAVENAME$2019.05.04-01.20.07.savegame, and the date only has to be valid, not accurate.

Upload the file with the File Manager or SFTP while the server is stopped, then point the active save setting in AstroServerSettings.ini at the part before the dollar sign, MYSAVENAME in that example. Keep the old file in the folder as well: switching back is a one-line change, and a second copy costs nothing.

Glitchwalkers, Megatech and Mixed Crews

Both paid expansions work on dedicated servers, but each one changes who can join. In normal co-op, only the host needs to own an expansion. On a dedicated server the rule is stricter, because the save itself decides.

  • Glitchwalkers: once the save is in the Aeoluz system, every player who joins must own Glitchwalkers (supported on servers since 26 February 2025).
  • Megatech: a save becomes a Megatech save as soon as a Construction Anchor for a Biodome, Orbital Platform or Museum is deployed, and from then on every player needs Megatech.
  • Base game: a save that never crosses either line stays open to everyone.

If only part of the crew owns an expansion, keep two saves: a base game save for everyone and an expansion save for those who own it. System Era itself suggests backing up before the first Megatech anchor, and with the Backup Manager that takes seconds.

How Much Memory an Astroneer Save Needs

Because the crew size is fixed at eight, our plans are not split by slots. They are split by memory, which is what grows over the life of a save. A new world with a starter base and a few players asks very little. A save with bases on several planets, rail networks, automated production and Megastructures keeps far more loaded at once.

Start on the free 5GB tier for a fresh save, move to 8GB once automation and rails spread out, and keep 12GB for late game saves heavy with Megatech. The memory graph in the panel is the honest judge: if it sits near the limit at your busiest hour, step up a tier.

Staying in Step with Monthly Patches

Through 2026 System Era shipped a patch each month, from 1.37.4 in February to 1.45.1 in October, and it plans to keep that rhythm until at least the end of the year, with a tenth anniversary content update planned for December. Each patch can stop players on the new build from joining an older server.

The routine is short: when a patch lands, take a snapshot, run Steam Update in the panel and restart. If something feels off afterwards, the log viewer shows what the server did at start-up, and the snapshot takes you back.

What to Compare Before You Rent an Astroneer Server

Astroneer offers look much alike. These are the questions that decide whether a server suits your crew.

  1. Your crew's platformsCheck who plays on Xbox before anything else, because that decides which kind of server you need.
  2. AchievementsKnow whether the server you rent can unlock achievements and cosmetics, and decide how much that matters to you.
  3. Memory in the priceWith slots capped at eight, the real difference between plans is RAM. See what the base price includes and what more costs.
  4. Save uploadsMake sure you can upload your own save and switch the active save yourself, without waiting on a ticket.
  5. Backups you controlExpansion saves change who can join, so snapshots you can restore at will are worth more than usual.
  6. Location and pingTest from your own PC; the Terrain Tool feels latency more than you might expect.
