Why Move Your Factory to a Dedicated Server
In a normal Satisfactory co-op game the factory lives on the host's PC. Everyone else can only build while that person is playing, and the host's machine has to simulate every belt and train while also running the game. Large factories make that very noticeable.
The Satisfactory Dedicated Server separates the two. It is a free program from Coffee Stain that runs the world on its own, so each pioneer can log in on their own schedule and the factory is always reachable. Since 1.0 it also ships with an HTTPS API and a lightweight query API for tools that check on the server.
Hosting it with us puts it on 5.0GHz cores with fast NVMe storage, in a data centre with DDoS filtering, so the build team is not depending on someone's home upload speed.
Claiming the Server in the Server Manager
Satisfactory servers are set up from inside the game rather than through a config file. A fresh server is unclaimed until the first person connects with the Server Manager.
- Open Server Manager from the main menu and choose to add a server.
- Enter the IP address and port shown in our panel, and accept the server's certificate when asked.
- Give the server a name and set the administrator password.
- Create a new game or upload an existing save from the Manage Saves tab.
- Optionally turn on player password protection and share the address with your team.
Server Manager Settings Worth Knowing
The Server Manager's settings page covers the options most groups need. The official wiki lists these.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Server name and admin password | Identity and control of the server |
| Player password protection | Off by default; on keeps the server private |
| Auto-Load Session Name | Which session the server opens after a restart |
| Auto Pause | Pauses the game while nobody is connected |
| Auto-Save on Player Disconnect | Saves as soon as a player leaves |
| Autosave Interval | Minutes between automatic saves |
| Server Restart Interval | A daily restart at the time you choose |
| Network Quality | The server's network quality preset |
Auto Pause is the setting that changes the feel of a server most. With it on, the factory waits for the team. With it off, production carries on between sessions, which is satisfying on a well-balanced factory and less so when a belt is backing up while everyone sleeps.
Player Limits and Big Teams
Satisfactory is designed for small co-op teams, and the dedicated server starts at 4 players. For bigger groups the official wiki points to the MaxPlayers value in the GameSession section of the game settings, giving the launch option -ini:Game:[/Script/Engine.GameSession]:MaxPlayers=8 as an example.
- Set MaxPlayers to match your plan's slots and restart the server.
- Each extra player in a different part of the map adds simulation load, so watch memory in the panel.
- Large teams work best with agreed areas for each builder, so the whole world is not loaded at once.
Saves, Blueprints and Backups
Local saves live in %LOCALAPPDATA%\FactoryGame\Saved\SaveGames on Windows. The simplest way to move one to the server is the Server Manager's Manage Saves tab. For bulk transfers, stop the server and upload the .sav files with the File Manager into the server's save folder.
Blueprints from the Blueprint Designer are separate files, .sbp and .sbpcfg, stored per world. Upload them into the blueprints folder named after your world so the whole team can place them.
For safety, combine a short autosave interval with Auto-Save on Player Disconnect, and download a copy of the save before major updates. Our offsite backups cover the last 7 days on top of that.
Running a Modded Server
Satisfactory mods are community projects, installed with the community-run Satisfactory Mod Manager. It can install mods on a remote server over SFTP, which is how it works with our servers.
- Stop the server and copy the SFTP mod path from Server Details in our panel.
- In the Mod Manager, open Manage Servers, switch to the advanced SFTP option and paste the path with your panel password.
- Choose the server as the install target and install your mods.
- Start the server and make sure each player has the same mods on their own game.
Mods depend on the game version. After a Satisfactory update, wait for your mods to be updated before you update a modded server, and keep a save from before the update.
Updates, Experimental and the Network Side
Coffee Stain tests large updates on the Experimental branch before they reach the main game, and the server has to match whichever branch the players use. Patch days are simple on a hosted server: run Steam Update, restart, and the Server Manager shows the new version.
On the network side the server uses port 7777 over UDP and TCP for game traffic and the HTTPS API, and port 8888 over TCP for reliable messaging. Both are already reachable on our network. The server runs on 64-bit Windows or Linux only, and the official wiki stresses single-thread CPU speed, which is why our 5.0GHz cores suit it.
What to Compare Before Renting a Satisfactory Server
Satisfactory servers are judged in month three, when the factory is huge. Check these before you choose.
- Memory headroomLate-game saves need far more RAM than a fresh start. Check how easily you can add memory later.
- Single-thread CPU speedThe wiki points to single-thread performance; a high clock speed matters more than core count.
- SFTP for modsIf you plan to mod, the Satisfactory Mod Manager needs SFTP access to the server.
- Save and blueprint accessYou should be able to upload and download saves and blueprints without opening a ticket.
- LocationTest ping from where your team lives; a nearby data centre keeps building responsive.
- TermsLook for monthly billing without setup fees or a long minimum term.
