Allied Assault in 2026: An Honest Status
Medal of Honor: Allied Assault puts you in the boots of Lt. Mike Powell, a member of the 1st Ranger Battalion recruited by the OSS, and one of its missions lands you on Omaha Beach with the D-Day invasion force. EA describes it as built on the Quake III engine, with weather and time of day effects, destructible scenery and more than 21 period weapons.
It is also a game its publisher has finished with. EA's list of online service shutdowns gives 30 June 2014 as the end of online services for Allied Assault on PC and Mac, including the Spearhead and Breakthrough expansions, and EA's own store page now says the game is unavailable for purchase.
The game is still sold. GOG offers the War Chest, which bundles Allied Assault with Spearhead and Breakthrough, is officially supported on Windows and needs no CD key. GOG's page is clear that the publisher no longer supports the multiplayer servers and that LAN is the only official option. Online play today depends on servers communities host themselves.
What a Hosted Server Gives Your Community
When a publisher's services close, the game's multiplayer becomes whatever the players keep running. A dedicated server is a fixed point: it has a permanent address, it is online when nobody in the group is, and its rules do not depend on who happened to start the match.
- Always on: the server runs in a data centre, not on a PC that someone has to leave running.
- A stable address: share the IP and port once, and regulars can return to it for years.
- Protection: long-running servers for old games attract floods, and DDoS filtering is standard on ours.
- Backups: your configs and maps are copied offsite every day and kept for seven days.
It also costs little. Allied Assault asks so little of modern hardware that every plan includes 5GB of RAM and you only pay for the number of players.
Allied Assault, Spearhead or Breakthrough
The War Chest contains three games, and each is a multiplayer game in its own right. Players can only join a server for a game they own and have installed, so the first decision is which one your group plays.
| Game | What it adds | Server to order |
|---|---|---|
| Allied Assault | The original campaign and multiplayer | This plan |
| Spearhead | The last year of the war on the European front | Our Spearhead server |
| Breakthrough | A campaign as US Army Sergeant John Baker | Our Breakthrough server |
If your community is split, run two servers. Each is priced on its own slot count, and both sit under the same panel login.
Choosing a Slot Count
Pick the plan for your busiest night, not your average one. Slots are a ceiling: a 24 slot server with ten players on it plays exactly like a 12 slot one.
| Plan | Typical use | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 12 Slots | Clan matches | Six a side with nobody else on the server |
| 16 Slots | A small public | Eight a side, or a match with spectators |
| 24 Slots | Community nights | Big maps feel alive without being chaotic |
| 32 Slots | Full public | Sixteen against sixteen on a busy weekend |
Every plan has the same 5GB of RAM, so moving up later only changes the player count. The order form also sells sizes in between and up to 64 slots.
Finding Players Without a Server List
The biggest change since 2014 is discovery. With EA's services gone, there is no official internet list to appear in, so the community around your server does the work the list used to do.
- Give the server a name people can search for and say it the same way everywhere.
- Post the IP and port in your Discord, on your clan site and in any MOHAA community you belong to.
- Set a regular night when people know the server will be busy, and stick to it.
- Keep the address stable. Moving location means telling everyone again, so test the ping before you settle.
Configs, Maps and Community Content
Everything that makes your server yours lives in its files: the server name, any password, the rules and the map rotation. You can edit them in the browser File Manager or download them over SFTP, and our support team can point you to the right file if you are setting up for the first time.
If your community plays custom maps, upload them over SFTP, add them to your rotation and give your players a download link, because a player without the same files cannot join a server that runs them. Add content in small batches and test after each one.
Take a Backup Manager snapshot before any change. If a map or config breaks the server, restoring takes one click, and offsite copies of the last seven days are there as a second safety net.
Keeping an Old Server Healthy
A server for a game this old is steadier than most modern ones, because the publisher no longer changes it. The things that go wrong are usually human: a bad edit, a forgotten password, a grudge.
- Restart nightly with Scheduled Tasks so the server starts each evening fresh.
- Give each admin a sub-user login instead of sharing yours, and remove it when they step down.
- Read the logs in the File Manager after anything odd, they usually say what happened.
- Keep a plain list of your custom files, so a rebuild or a move is quick.
DDoS protection is included at every location, which matters for a game whose community has been around for over twenty years and whose rivalries are just as old.
Moving an Existing Server to Us
Plenty of Allied Assault communities have moved hosts before. The server's identity lives in its configs and custom content, so a move is mostly careful copying.
- Download your configs and every custom map or file from the old host.
- Order the matching server here, stop it and snapshot the clean install.
- Upload your files into the same folders over SFTP, keeping the layout exactly as it was.
- Start the server, join it yourself and check the rotation and rules.
- Post the new address to your players, then cancel the old server.
What to Compare Before Renting an Allied Assault Server
An old, light game puts the difference between hosts in honesty, access and network.
- Monthly billingWith a game this old, start monthly and test with your players before paying for a year.
- Real file accessConfigs and custom maps need SFTP and a file manager, not only a form.
- The right gameCheck the host sells the exact game you play: the base game, Spearhead or Breakthrough.
- Ping to your regularsRun a ping test before choosing; your address should not need to change later.
- Protection and backupsDDoS filtering and offsite backups should come as standard, not as extras.

About this guide: based on EA's official game pages and its online service shutdown list, and on GOG's store page for the War Chest, drafted with AI assistance, checked against our live order form for every plan, price and location, and reviewed by Matthew Griffin before it went live.
