Soulmask Server Hosting Explained: A Complete Guide
This guide covers running a Soulmask world on a rented server after the 1.0 release: choosing a map and mode, sizing the plan, joining and admin, the coefficient settings, clusters, mods and keeping the world safe. It is written for the chieftain who ends up running the server for everyone else.

Why a Soulmask Tribe Needs a Dedicated Server
In Soulmask you are rarely playing alone even when you are the only human online. Recruited barbarians become tribesmen who farm, craft and guard the base, production lines keep running, and invasions keep coming. When one player hosts, all of that stops the moment they leave, and nobody else can check on the tribe until they return.
A dedicated server keeps the world awake for everyone. Players in different time zones can log in when they like, a tribe can grow steadily instead of in bursts, and the host's PC is free to simply play the game. We run the official dedicated server on fast hardware, with the panel tools our knowledge base describes for Soulmask: invitation codes, warned restarts, update checks and Discord notices.
Soulmask 1.0 and the Shifting Sands Expansion
Soulmask left Early Access with version 1.0 on 9 April 2026, about two years after it launched on 30 May 2024. The release came with Shifting Sands, a paid expansion that adds a second map with an Egyptian setting, which the developer calls as large as the base game, along with new masks, Solar Barges and new bosses.
- 21 April 2026: Casual Mode.
- 25 June 2026: World Portals with the Cross-World Portal, and a combat overhaul.
- 23 July 2026: a new Building Mode.
- 31 August 2026: Beyond Gravity, the final chapter of Shifting Sands, with the Burning Highlands and the Holy Ruins.
- 17 September 2026: patch #20, the latest at the time of writing.
Private server saves from Early Access still work in 1.0, so a long-running tribe did not have to start again. CampFire Studio has mentioned more civilisation-themed expansions without dates, so treat future content as a plan until it is released.
How Many Slots and How Much Memory
CampFire Studio has said each server can hold up to 70 players, a figure first given before Early Access. Most tribes are far smaller, and our plans offer 10, 20, 40 and 100 slots. Treat the 100 slot plan as our largest size with the most headroom, not a guarantee of 100 players in one world.
Memory deserves more thought than slots. The developer's private server tutorial asks for at least 16GB of RAM and 2 to 4 CPU cores per server process, about 100kbps of bandwidth per player and around 20GB of free disk. Our 40 and 100 slot plans include 16GB and 20GB. The 10 and 20 slot plans include 10GB and 14GB to keep small servers affordable; if you want the developer's figure from the start, pick 16GB at checkout.
The memory graph in the panel shows how close the world runs to its limit. A tribe with dozens of working tribesmen and a sprawling base uses far more than a fresh start, so check it again after a few weeks.
Joining, Admin Rights and the GM Panel
Soulmask gives you three ways to reach a private server, all from the Online Game menu.
| Method | How it works |
|---|---|
| Invitation code | Copy it from the panel and paste it into the Private Servers tab |
| Server name | Search for the name you set in Start.bat in the Private Servers tab |
| Direct connection | Use Connect to the server directly with the IP and port from the panel |
- Copy the admin password from Server Details (you can change it in Start.bat).
- Join the server and press the ~ key to open the console.
- Type GM Key followed by the password to open the GM panel.
- Use the panel, or close it and type commands with admin rights.
- Type GM BaoCun to save when you have made changes.
PvE, PvP and the Coefficient Settings
Private servers can run as PvE or PvP. Beyond that, Soulmask exposes a long list of tuning values, which the game calls coefficients, and the developer counts more than 200 customisable settings. On our servers you can edit them in the files, but the easiest route is in game: open the GM panel, choose Open coefficient settings, adjust what you need and save with GM BaoCun.
Rates such as gathering and experience are the usual first changes; for comparison, the official PvE servers have run at a permanent 3x rate since April 2026. On a busy server, agree on base locations early so tribes do not crowd each other. Casual Mode, added in April 2026, is an option for groups who want a gentler survival experience.
Two-Map Clusters and Workshop Mods
A cluster links two servers, usually Cloud Mist Forest and Shifting Sands, so players can move between them through the portal on either map. On our panel it takes two servers and a few settings.
- On the first server, choose This is a Master Server in Start.bat, start it, and enable Cross-server Mode in the coefficient settings.
- Copy the Master Connection Info from that server's Server Details.
- On the second server, choose This is a Slave Server, paste the connection info, start it and enable Cross-server Mode.
- Use the same password on both, and always start the master first and stop it last.
Your initial character stays on its home server; travel by possessing a tribesman instead. For mods, list Workshop IDs in the server's mod launch option and the server downloads them at start-up. Every player needs the same mods to join, so share the list with the tribe before switching them on.
Saves, Restarts and Updates
Soulmask writes the world to its own database on a timer and can take a backup at start-up. Our scheduled restart task adds a safety net: it warns players with a 10 minute countdown, saves the world, backs it up and then restarts. Running it every few hours keeps a long session fresh.
For updates, a scheduled Steam Update task with the option to update only when a new version is available means the server restarts only when CampFire Studio has released something. Pair it with Discord notifications so the tribe knows why the server went down. Our Backup Manager and 7 days of offsite copies cover anything else.
What to Compare Before You Rent a Soulmask Server
Soulmask hosting offers can look alike. These details decide how the world runs after the first week.
- Memory against the official guidanceThe developer suggests 16GB per server. Check how much each plan includes and what the next tier costs.
- Cluster supportIf you want both maps, check the host can set master and slave servers for you.
- Restart and update toolsWarned restarts and update-only-when-needed tasks save a lot of manual work.
- Location and pingCombat timing depends on latency, so test a location close to most of the tribe.
- Backups you controlLook for snapshots you can restore yourself and offsite copies.
- Billing termsCompare monthly and longer cycles, and check for setup fees or minimum contracts.
