1.0 and beyond

Soulmask 1.0, Shifting Sands and the 2026 Updates

Soulmask entered Early Access on 30 May 2024 and released 1.0 on 9 April 2026, together with the paid Shifting Sands expansion. CampFire Studio has kept updating since, and several changes affect how a private server is set up.

1.09 April 2026Beyond Gravity31 August 2026Early Access30 May 2024

01

Shifting Sands

A second map with an Egyptian setting, which the developer describes as as large as the base game. It adds masks such as Horus and Anubis, flying Solar Barges and new bosses.

02

Cross-map play

On linked maps, characters, levels, tribes, masks and tribesmen carry over. Private servers can be set up for cross-map play, and the June 2026 update added the Cross-World Portal.

03

Casual Mode and Building Mode

Casual Mode arrived on 21 April 2026 for groups who want gentler survival, and a new Building Mode followed on 23 July.

04

Beyond Gravity

Released on 31 August 2026 as the final chapter of Shifting Sands, with the Burning Highlands, the Holy Ruins, the boss Divine Punishment and three new masks. Patch #20 followed on 17 September.

Mods & clusters

Mods and Clusters for Soulmask Server Hosting

Soulmask supports Steam Workshop mods made with the official Modkits, and a dedicated server downloads them by itself. Crossplay is not part of the picture: Soulmask is a Windows game on Steam, so the multiplayer story is about linking maps rather than platforms.

Mods

Workshop mods

Mods are published on the Steam Workshop. List their Workshop IDs in the server's mod launch option and the server downloads them when it starts.

Same mods for everyone

Players need the same mods as the server, or they are refused entry. Subscribing on the Workshop before joining avoids surprises.

Soulmask Modkits

CampFire Studio released free Modkits in December 2024, built on Unreal Engine 4.27, so the community can create new content.

Clusters

Two-map cluster

Link a Cloud Mist Forest server and a Shifting Sands server as master and slave in Start.bat, enable Cross-server Mode on both, and players travel between them.

Travel rules

Your starting character cannot cross between servers; travel as a tribesman instead. Both servers need the same password, and the master starts first and stops last.

PC only

Soulmask is sold for Windows on Steam. No console version has been announced, and the developer has made no crossplay statement.

RAM for Soulmask Server Hosting: What Your Tribe Needs

Soulmask is one of the more demanding survival servers. CampFire Studio's private server tutorial asks for at least 16GB of RAM and 2 to 4 CPU cores per server process. Our 40 and 100 slot plans meet that as standard; the 10 and 20 slot plans include 10GB and 14GB for smaller groups, with 16GB one step up at checkout.

  • A few friends, one base

    Plan: 10 Slots
    RAM included: 10GB

When to add more: Choose 16GB at checkout if you want the developer's recommended minimum from day one.

  • Up to 20 players

    Plan: 20 Slots
    RAM included: 14GB

When to add more: Move to 16GB once many tribesmen are working and the map is well explored.

  • Up to 40 players

    Plan: 40 Slots
    RAM included: 16GB

When to add more: Large automated bases and Workshop mods are happier on 20GB.

  • Our largest server

    Plan: 100 Slots
    RAM included: 20GB

When to add more: The busiest worlds can go to 24GB or 32GB.

RAM tiers on the order form: 10GB, 14GB, 16GB, 20GB, 24GB and 32GB. You can upgrade later from the client area without losing the world.

Answers

Soulmask Server Hosting Questions

Answers to what Soulmask server owners ask us most.

Getting started

How quickly is my Soulmask server ready?

It is created automatically once payment clears, usually within 20 minutes. Allow a few more minutes after the first start before it appears in the server list.

How do my friends join?

Three ways: paste the invitation code from the panel into the Private Servers tab, search for the server name in the same tab, or use Connect to the server directly with the IP and port.

How do I become an admin?

Copy the admin password from Server Details, join the server, press the ~ key and type GM Key followed by the password. The GM panel opens with every admin option.

Which location should I choose?

Run the ping test on this page from your own PC and pick the lowest result for most of your tribe. All 9 locations cost the same.

Players, maps and mods

How many players can a Soulmask server hold?

CampFire Studio has said each server can hold up to 70 players. Our plans offer 10, 20, 40 and 100 slots, and the 100 slot plan is our largest size rather than a promise of 100 players in one world.

Can I host Shifting Sands?

Yes. Shifting Sands is a paid expansion. You can run it on its own server or link it to a Cloud Mist Forest server as a cluster.

How do I set up a two-map cluster?

You need two servers. Set one as master and the other as slave in Start.bat, paste the master's connection info into the slave, use the same password on both and enable Cross-server Mode in each server's settings.

Does Soulmask support mods on a dedicated server?

Yes. Steam Workshop mods made with the official Modkits are listed by Workshop ID in the server's mod launch option and download automatically. Players need the same mods to join.

Settings and updates

How do I change gather rates and other settings?

Open the GM panel in game, click Open coefficient settings and adjust what you like, then type GM BaoCun in the console to save everything.

What happens when Soulmask updates?

Run Steam Update in the panel, or create a scheduled Steam Update task that only runs when a new version is out. Players get a countdown warning first.

How are backups handled?

Scheduled restarts can save and back up the world each time, our Backup Manager takes snapshots on request, and offsite copies are kept for the last 7 days.

Billing and plans

How much does Soulmask server hosting cost?

The 10 slot plan is the cheapest at $14.15 a month. The plans table shows each plan for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months; longer cycles lower the monthly price on the 20, 40 and 100 slot plans.

Can I upgrade later?

Yes. Add slots or memory from the client area as the tribe grows, and the world stays on the same server.

Is there a contract?

No. Monthly billing renews each month and you can cancel any time. The 3, 6 and 12 month cycles are paid upfront.

Why a Soulmask Tribe Needs a Dedicated Server

In Soulmask you are rarely playing alone even when you are the only human online. Recruited barbarians become tribesmen who farm, craft and guard the base, production lines keep running, and invasions keep coming. When one player hosts, all of that stops the moment they leave, and nobody else can check on the tribe until they return.

A dedicated server keeps the world awake for everyone. Players in different time zones can log in when they like, a tribe can grow steadily instead of in bursts, and the host's PC is free to simply play the game. We run the official dedicated server on fast hardware, with the panel tools our knowledge base describes for Soulmask: invitation codes, warned restarts, update checks and Discord notices.

Soulmask 1.0 and the Shifting Sands Expansion

Soulmask left Early Access with version 1.0 on 9 April 2026, about two years after it launched on 30 May 2024. The release came with Shifting Sands, a paid expansion that adds a second map with an Egyptian setting, which the developer calls as large as the base game, along with new masks, Solar Barges and new bosses.

  • 21 April 2026: Casual Mode.
  • 25 June 2026: World Portals with the Cross-World Portal, and a combat overhaul.
  • 23 July 2026: a new Building Mode.
  • 31 August 2026: Beyond Gravity, the final chapter of Shifting Sands, with the Burning Highlands and the Holy Ruins.
  • 17 September 2026: patch #20, the latest at the time of writing.

Private server saves from Early Access still work in 1.0, so a long-running tribe did not have to start again. CampFire Studio has mentioned more civilisation-themed expansions without dates, so treat future content as a plan until it is released.

How Many Slots and How Much Memory

CampFire Studio has said each server can hold up to 70 players, a figure first given before Early Access. Most tribes are far smaller, and our plans offer 10, 20, 40 and 100 slots. Treat the 100 slot plan as our largest size with the most headroom, not a guarantee of 100 players in one world.

Memory deserves more thought than slots. The developer's private server tutorial asks for at least 16GB of RAM and 2 to 4 CPU cores per server process, about 100kbps of bandwidth per player and around 20GB of free disk. Our 40 and 100 slot plans include 16GB and 20GB. The 10 and 20 slot plans include 10GB and 14GB to keep small servers affordable; if you want the developer's figure from the start, pick 16GB at checkout.

The memory graph in the panel shows how close the world runs to its limit. A tribe with dozens of working tribesmen and a sprawling base uses far more than a fresh start, so check it again after a few weeks.

Joining, Admin Rights and the GM Panel

Soulmask gives you three ways to reach a private server, all from the Online Game menu.

MethodHow it works
Invitation codeCopy it from the panel and paste it into the Private Servers tab
Server nameSearch for the name you set in Start.bat in the Private Servers tab
Direct connectionUse Connect to the server directly with the IP and port from the panel
  1. Copy the admin password from Server Details (you can change it in Start.bat).
  2. Join the server and press the ~ key to open the console.
  3. Type GM Key followed by the password to open the GM panel.
  4. Use the panel, or close it and type commands with admin rights.
  5. Type GM BaoCun to save when you have made changes.

PvE, PvP and the Coefficient Settings

Private servers can run as PvE or PvP. Beyond that, Soulmask exposes a long list of tuning values, which the game calls coefficients, and the developer counts more than 200 customisable settings. On our servers you can edit them in the files, but the easiest route is in game: open the GM panel, choose Open coefficient settings, adjust what you need and save with GM BaoCun.

Rates such as gathering and experience are the usual first changes; for comparison, the official PvE servers have run at a permanent 3x rate since April 2026. On a busy server, agree on base locations early so tribes do not crowd each other. Casual Mode, added in April 2026, is an option for groups who want a gentler survival experience.

Two-Map Clusters and Workshop Mods

A cluster links two servers, usually Cloud Mist Forest and Shifting Sands, so players can move between them through the portal on either map. On our panel it takes two servers and a few settings.

  • On the first server, choose This is a Master Server in Start.bat, start it, and enable Cross-server Mode in the coefficient settings.
  • Copy the Master Connection Info from that server's Server Details.
  • On the second server, choose This is a Slave Server, paste the connection info, start it and enable Cross-server Mode.
  • Use the same password on both, and always start the master first and stop it last.

Your initial character stays on its home server; travel by possessing a tribesman instead. For mods, list Workshop IDs in the server's mod launch option and the server downloads them at start-up. Every player needs the same mods to join, so share the list with the tribe before switching them on.

Saves, Restarts and Updates

Soulmask writes the world to its own database on a timer and can take a backup at start-up. Our scheduled restart task adds a safety net: it warns players with a 10 minute countdown, saves the world, backs it up and then restarts. Running it every few hours keeps a long session fresh.

For updates, a scheduled Steam Update task with the option to update only when a new version is available means the server restarts only when CampFire Studio has released something. Pair it with Discord notifications so the tribe knows why the server went down. Our Backup Manager and 7 days of offsite copies cover anything else.

What to Compare Before You Rent a Soulmask Server

Soulmask hosting offers can look alike. These details decide how the world runs after the first week.

  1. Memory against the official guidanceThe developer suggests 16GB per server. Check how much each plan includes and what the next tier costs.
  2. Cluster supportIf you want both maps, check the host can set master and slave servers for you.
  3. Restart and update toolsWarned restarts and update-only-when-needed tasks save a lot of manual work.
  4. Location and pingCombat timing depends on latency, so test a location close to most of the tribe.
  5. Backups you controlLook for snapshots you can restore yourself and offsite copies.
  6. Billing termsCompare monthly and longer cycles, and check for setup fees or minimum contracts.
