Myth of Empires in Brief
Angela Game's Myth of Empires, published by Imperium Interactive Entertainment, is a multiplayer war sandbox. Players survive and craft in a world shaped by ancient civilisations, then build fortresses, tame and breed horses and beasts, recruit NPC warriors and lead them into battle on land, at sea and in the air. The Steam store page counts more than 1,300 crafting recipes, 25 development paths and a 16-tier nobility system.
Steam lists several ways to play: official servers, custom servers, and solo and hosted modes. A custom server is what you rent from us. It runs the same dedicated server software as a home-made one, but in a data centre, online around the clock, with your rules instead of the official season rules.
Custom Servers Versus the Official Servers
Official servers run as seasons, with county, prefecture and fortress battles organised across many servers and rules set by the developer. That is a big part of the game, but it is not for every guild. On a custom server you decide the pace: how fast resources come in, how quickly things are crafted, when the server restarts and who is allowed in.
Custom servers are no longer a cut-down version of the real thing. In December 2023, ahead of V1.0, Angela Game said private servers had been upgraded to the same functionality as the official servers, and the server tool's default settings match the official ones. Since V1.0 cosmetic skins also work on dedicated servers, so players keep their looks when they move to your world.
- Official servers: seasons, cross-server battles and the developer's rules.
- Custom server: your rates and rules, your mods, your schedule, your admins.
- Solo or hosted: fine for trying the game, but the world closes when the host does.
What the Official Server Tool Sets
At home, a custom server is made with the official PrivateServerTool.exe, which you can also open from Custom Server in the main menu. Its basic settings are the same ones you fill in on a hosted server:
| Setting | What it does | On our servers |
|---|---|---|
| Server Name | The name players see in the single-server list | Set it to something your players will search for |
| Server Password | Optional; players must enter it to join | Leave it empty for a public server |
| Server ID | Saves are stored under it; changing it loses the archive | Set once, then leave it |
| Game, query and remote management ports | Unique ports between 1024 and 65535 | Already assigned and open |
| Enable Remote Management | Remote tools such as RCON, on by default | Used by the panel's Web Console |
| GM Accounts | Steam IDs with admin rights, separated by semicolons | Add your admins here |
| Start Server in P2P Mode | Lets players outside a home network join without a public IP | Not needed: the server has a public IP |
When a server starts cleanly, its log shows a line with ServerState:EGameServerState::SERVER_STATE_OPENED. If you change something and that line never appears, read the log in the panel before you change anything else.
Rates, Rules and Guild Settings
After the basic settings, the tool's tabs run from advanced settings through to guild settings, and every default matches the official servers. That makes a good starting point: change only what your group wants to be different, and leave the rest as the developer balanced it.
The range is wide. Back in November 2021 the developer raised the tool's multiplier range from 0 to 30 to 0 to 1000, and added settings such as the crafting and repair time multipliers. With V1.0 came options for the number of boundary markers a player can own and their structure values, and later updates added cluster switches for the fair battlefield and for travel between PvP and PvE servers.
- Casual PvE: faster gathering and crafting, so a small group can build a real fortress.
- Competitive PvP: stay close to the official values, so sieges feel the way they should.
- Events: change one or two settings for a weekend, then restore your backup afterwards.
Workshop Mods and Level Mods
Myth of Empires has official mod support. Angela Game documents a modding devkit covering weapons, armour, buildings, levels, crafting and recipes, loot and character models, and players publish their mods on the Steam Workshop. A custom server installs mods by their Workshop IDs, and each one is then switched on in the server's mod list.
- Take a backup of the server first.
- Add the mod's Steam Workshop ID to the server's mod list and install it.
- Switch the mod on, save, and restart the server.
- For a level mod, replace LargeTerrain_Central_Main in the start line with the mod's level name.
- Check the log for the opened state line before you invite players.
Mods and game updates are the classic cause of a lost evening. After a big Myth of Empires patch, check each mod's Workshop page for an updated version before you start the server again.
One Server or a Cluster
The official tool can build two kinds of custom server. A single server is one world on one map, which is what each of our plans gives you. The tool's World mode builds a cluster that copies the official structure: exactly one lobby server for connections, character creation and county selection, scene servers that each act as a county, battle servers for county, prefecture and fortress battles, and optional public and peripheral servers.
A cluster is a bigger project. The peripheral server needs Redis, every role needs its own ports, and the lobby's player limit has to be higher than any single scene server's. The official guide keeps the default database, SQLite, and does not recommend MySQL for non-professional users with moderate player counts. If you want a cluster, talk to support first so we can plan it with you.
Slots, RAM and a Growing Empire
Our plans run from 20 to 100 slots, and the order form sells any count in between. Angela Game has said that the Unreal Engine limits how many players one server can hold, and every player brings buildings, horses and warriors with them, so memory matters more than in most games. That is why our smallest plan already includes 12GB, with 16GB on 40 slots, 20GB on 60, 24GB on 80 and 32GB on 100.
Use the memory graph in the panel rather than guessing. If it sits near your allocation during sieges or on your busiest evening, move up a tier from the client area. Your world and settings stay exactly where they are.
Admins, Anti-Cheat and Daily Care
Give admin rights through the GM accounts setting, and keep the list short. GMs can use the game's admin commands, for example cheat setweather with a number to change the weather (0 is sunny) or cheat BroadcastNotifySysInfo to post an announcement, followed by the message in quotes, how often to repeat it and the interval, which is ideal for restart warnings.
Switch on the anti-cheat for any public server. Since V1.0 the game's anti-cheat covers dedicated servers that turn it on, and Angela Game says cheaters it catches are added to the Steam VAC ban list. For everything else, ban from the panel's Web Console as our knowledge base shows.
- Restarts: at least two a day from the Scheduler, announced in game first.
- Backups: before every rates change, mod update or event, on top of our 7 days of offsite copies.
- Server ID: never change it, or the world's archive is lost.
- Updates: Steam Update after each official patch, then a quick look at the log.
What to Compare Before You Rent a Myth of Empires Server
Offers look alike at first glance. These details decide how the server feels once your guild has moved in.
- RAM in the base priceMyth of Empires worlds grow heavy. Check how much memory the cheapest plan includes and what each tier costs.
- Access to every settingMake sure you can change rates, guild settings and GM accounts yourself, without a ticket each time.
- Mod supportCheck that Workshop mods, and level mods if you want them, can be added to the server.
- Locations you can testFind a data centre near most of your players and run a ping test before you buy.
- Backups you can restoreFind out whether you can roll back yourself and how far back the offsite copies go.
- Billing termsCompare monthly and longer cycles, and look for setup fees and minimum terms.
