Path of Titans Server Hosting Explained: A Complete Guide
This guide walks through running a Path of Titans community server: what a hosted server gives you, the settings files, growth and death penalties, mods and crossplay, staff tools and backups. It is written for the person who will be answering the community's questions at midnight.

What a Path of Titans Community Server Is
Path of Titans is Alderon Games' dinosaur MMO: players start small, grow by questing and surviving, and take their place in a food chain of herbivores and carnivores. On a community server, the owner sets the rules. Alderon's own hosting documentation lists the jobs that come with that: server settings, rules, a message of the day, player and admin roles, mods, moderation tools and launch.
You can run the server yourself. Alderon's notes cover downloading it with its own command-line tool, AlderonGamesCmd, generating a hosting auth token, giving each server a unique ID and choosing the production branch. Renting a server moves all of that into a data centre: the install is done for you, the network is open and filtered, and there is a support team to contact when a mod refuses to load.
Game.ini: The Settings That Shape Your Server
Most of what makes one Path of Titans server feel different from another lives in Game.ini, under two headers: [/Script/PathOfTitans.IGameSession] for the session and its rules, and [/Script/PathOfTitans.IGameMode] for the world. Stop the server, edit the file in the File Manager, save and start it again.
| Setting | What it does | Default or example |
|---|---|---|
| ServerName | The name in the server list | Underscores for spaces |
| MaxPlayers | Player limit, matched to your plan | 100 in Alderon's example |
| ServerPassword | Password to join | Empty |
| bServerPaidUsersOnly | Full copies of the game only | false |
| MaxCharactersPerPlayer | Characters per account | 30 |
| MaxCharactersPerSpecies | Characters per species per account | 1 |
| AFKDisconnectTime | Idle time before a kick, in seconds | 600 |
| ServerDayLength | Length of a day, in minutes | 240 in Alderon's example |
Growth, Quests and Death Penalties
Growth is the heart of Path of Titans, and it is the part community owners change most. bServerGrowth turns growth on or off. GlobalPassiveGrowthPerMinute adds growth over time for every dinosaur, set to 0 by default. QuestGrowthMultiplier and QuestMarksMultiplier scale what quests give, and MaxCompleteQuestsInLocation sets how many quests complete a point of interest.
Deaths cost marks and growth, split by cause. The defaults are 25% of marks and 10% of growth for a combat death, 5% and 2% for a fall, and 10% and 5% for a survival death such as starving. bLoseQuestsOnDeath fails active quests when you die, and ServerDeadBodyTime decides how long carcasses stay on the map, forever by default.
- Roleplay servers often add passive growth and soften death penalties, so players spend time in character, not grinding.
- Realism servers keep growth slow and penalties high, so every fight has weight.
- Event servers switch growth off and let players pick adults for a night of set battles.
Running Mods on a Path of Titans Server
Mods run on community servers. Each mod has an ID, shown on its page in game, in the form UGC_ followed by letters and numbers. List them in GameUserSettings.ini, one EnabledMods line each under the [PathOfTitans.Mods] header.
- Stop the server and open GameUserSettings.ini in the File Manager.
- Add one EnabledMods line per mod ID under [PathOfTitans.Mods].
- For a map mod, also set ServerMap in Game.ini to the map's exact name.
- Start the server. It fetches the newest version of each mod as it boots, and players download them on join.
Skin, Creator Mode item and creature mods stack together. Stat mods stack too, unless two of them edit the same creature, and only one map mod runs at once. The catch is mobile: Alderon notes that many map mods cannot run on phones and tablets, so a modded map closes the server to mobile players. Creature and skin mods are generally mobile-friendly.
Crossplay: PC, Console and Mobile on One Map
Few survival games reach as many devices. Alderon lists Path of Titans on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch, and says all of them connect to the same servers. For a community owner that means one server can hold the whole group, whatever each person plays on.
It also means thinking about the weakest device in the room. A long mod list adds download time on join, which is felt more on a phone connection. A modded map may lock out mobile players entirely. Before you add a mod, decide whether your community includes mobile players and test the join yourself from one.
Admins, Roles and Moderation Tools
Admins are added in Game.ini with ServerAdmins lines, one Alderon Games ID per line, and the /promote and /demote commands change admin roles while the server runs. Alderon's hosting documentation goes further, with player and admin roles, reserved slots, whitelists, server mutes, bans and kicks, and admin chat commands.
- Spectator Tool: watch a reported fight without joining it as a dinosaur.
- Creator Mode: build and place items on the map for events and roleplay sets.
- Replay recordings: review what happened before you act on a report.
- Webhooks and reports: send in-game player reports to a Discord channel your staff watch.
The anti-cheat side has settings of its own. SpeedhackDetection picks the action on a detection, from logging to a ban, and BattlEye can be switched on in its own section of Game.ini.
Backups, Restarts and Updates
Take a snapshot in the Backup Manager before any change you are unsure of: a new mod, a growth rework or a fresh Game.ini. Offsite copies of the last 7 days are kept on top. Alderon recommends a local database for most servers; a remote database is only needed when several servers share character data.
Patches are the other routine. When Alderon releases a new build, players update first and cannot join an older server, so update the server and restart soon after. A daily restart from Scheduled Tasks at a quiet hour keeps mods current too, because the server checks each mod for a newer version every time it boots.
What to Compare Before You Rent a Path of Titans Server
Community server offers look alike. These are the details that decide how hosting feels once the server is busy.
- Slots and memory togetherCheck how much RAM comes with the slot count you need, and what the next tier costs.
- Config file accessYou will edit Game.ini and GameUserSettings.ini often. A file manager and SFTP save time.
- Location and pingTest from the devices your players use, including phones, before you order.
- Backups you restore yourselfMake sure you can roll back without a ticket, and ask how many days of offsite copies are kept.
- Update speedAfter a patch, players cannot join an old server. Check you can update the server yourself straight away.
- Billing termsCompare monthly and longer terms, and look for setup fees or minimum contracts.
