Day of Dragons Update 1.2 and What Comes Next

Day of Dragons is still listed as Early Access on Steam, and Beawesome Games patches it often. Update 1.0.0 arrived on 17 February 2024 and moved the game to Unreal Engine 5, Update 1.2 "The Brood Watcher" followed on 27 March 2025, and its final patch, 1.2.32, landed on 1 July 2026.

Early Access4 December 2019Update 1.0.017 February 2024Latest patch1.2.32 · 1 July 2026

01

A higher player ceiling

Patch 1.2.17 (5 January 2026) raised the hard cap on the max players setting from 200 to 300. Beawesome still recommends 100 for most servers, and no more than 125 players per dedicated physical core on high-performance Zen 5 machines.

02

Server maintenance mode

Patch 1.2.31 (30 June 2026) added a maintenance mode, switched on with bEnableMNTC=True in Game.ini. Its first option, bMNTC_RemoveDupes=true, deletes duplicated items from inventories. Beawesome advises a backup first.

03

More admin control

Update 1.2 added Grow Elder, Protect and Unprotect to the admin panel and a bDisableRespawns setting, and patch 1.2.20 added bDisableEggSaves for owners who do not want saved eggs brought in.

04

Update 1.3 in development

Beawesome's next update will add the Singe Crest, a class 3 healer, with new healing and fishing mechanics, and skin crafting. No release date had been announced when we checked.

Rules & admin tools

Server Types, Rules and Admin Tools for Day of Dragons Server Hosting

We found no official mod support for the dedicated server in Beawesome's guides or patch notes. What it offers instead is a long list of Game.ini settings and an in-game admin panel, which between them cover most of what server owners want to change.

Server rules

Four server types

iServerType sets the rules: 0 for PvP, 1 for PvE (no PvP at all, and no Elemental faction), 2 for DvE (faction PvP only) and 3 for CvC (faction and clan PvP only).

Growth and nesting

iGrowthRateMultiplier runs from half speed to double speed growth, bDisableGrowth spawns everyone as adults, and bDisableNesting turns off nesting for skins and stat upgrades.

Clans

iMaxClans caps how many clans can exist (0 disables clan creation) and iMaxClanMembers how big each one gets. CvC servers always allow 255 clans.

Admin tools

Admins, friends and bans

Add one Steam64 ID per sServerAdmins, sServerFriends or sServerBanned line. With bUseFriendsList switched on, only the players on the friends list can join.

The in-game admin panel

Admins open it with /admin. If sServerPassword is set, they type /admin followed by that password instead.

Time, weather and anti-cheat

Update 1.1 added settings to freeze the day and night cycle or random weather, and to turn off EasyAntiCheat, plus the /ct and /cw admin commands for time and weather.

Memory by plan

RAM for Day of Dragons Server Hosting by Player Count

Beawesome Games gives advice on player counts rather than memory, so the RAM on each plan is our own sizing for an Unreal Engine 5 server: the free 5GB tier on 20 slots, then 8GB, 12GB and 16GB as the plans grow. If the memory graph sits near the limit on busy evenings, move up a tier.

  • A clan or roleplay group

    Plan: 20 Slots
    RAM included: 5GB

When to add more: When the map stays busy for hours with lots of AI and nests.

  • Several clans on one map

    Plan: 40 Slots
    RAM included: 8GB

When to add more: If corpses and AI pile up, also lower iCorpseDespawnTime.

  • Community server with events

    Plan: 60 Slots
    RAM included: 12GB

When to add more: Step up to 16GB for regular full-server events.

  • Large public server

    Plan: 100 Slots
    RAM included: 16GB

When to add more: Beyond 100 players, Beawesome says only high-performance hardware will keep up.

Memory tiers on the order form: 5GB (free), 8GB, 12GB, 16GB, 20GB, 24GB and 32GB. You can change tier later from the client area and the server keeps its files.

Before the first hatch

Day of Dragons Server Hosting Essentials Before You Order

Settle these before your first players hatch.

  1. Choose your server type

PvP, PvE, DvE or CvC changes how the whole community plays. It is one number in Game.ini, but changing it later changes the server's character.

  2. Collect admin Steam64 IDs

Each admin needs their 17-digit Steam64 ID on an sServerAdmins line in Game.ini.

  3. Decide on growth speed

Normal growth suits survival servers; faster growth or adult spawns suit PvP and events.

  4. Plan restarts in UTC

iDailyRestartHour uses UTC, so convert from your own time zone before you set it.

  5. Keep a ping limit in mind

If you plan to use iMaxLatencyMS, choose a location close to your players first.

Answers

Day of Dragons Server Hosting Questions

Short answers to what new Day of Dragons server owners ask us.

Getting started

How quickly is my Day of Dragons server ready?

It is set up automatically after payment, and your panel login arrives by email. Game servers are usually online within 20 minutes.

Where is Game.ini?

In the server's Dragons/Saved/Config folder, and you can open it from Configuration Files in the panel. Beawesome's guide says the settings sit under the header line /game/_dev/runtime/classes/dragonsgi.dragonsgi_c in square brackets.

How do I make myself an admin?

Stop the server, add an sServerAdmins line with your 17-digit Steam64 ID to Game.ini, and start it again. In game, type /admin to open the admin panel.

Which location should I pick?

Run the ping test on this page from the PC you play on and choose the lowest result for most of your players. All 9 locations cost the same.

Rules and players

How do I make a PvE server?

Set iServerType=1 in Game.ini. PvE turns off PvP entirely and disables the Elemental faction. DvE (2) allows faction PvP only, and CvC (3) allows faction and clan PvP.

Can I make the server private?

Yes. Set bUseFriendsList=True and add each allowed player on an sServerFriends line. Anyone not on the list is kicked automatically, and the server shows a lock icon in the browser.

How many players can one server hold?

The max players setting defaults to 100, and patch 1.2.17 raised its hard cap to 300. Beawesome recommends 100 for most servers, which is our largest listed plan; the order form goes higher.

Can I make dragons grow faster?

Yes. iGrowthRateMultiplier accepts 0 to 3, from half speed to double speed. Or set bDisableGrowth=True and every egg spawns an adult.

Saves and updates

How often does the server save?

Every 300 seconds by default. iAutoSaveSeconds accepts anything from 60 to 3600 seconds.

What happens when Beawesome patches the game?

Run Steam Update in the panel, or schedule it, so the server matches the version your players have. Read the patch notes first: some updates add new Game.ini settings.

How do I remove duplicated pearls?

Back up first, then set bEnableMNTC=True and bMNTC_RemoveDupes=true in Game.ini and restart. The server scans inventories and deletes duplicates while keeping the originals.

Billing and plans

How much does Day of Dragons server hosting cost?

The 20 slot plan is the cheapest shown here, at $10.80 a month. Slots are priced one at a time, so other counts are on the order form, and longer terms lower the monthly price.

Can I upgrade later?

Yes. Add slots or memory from the client area, pay the difference and restart. Your Game.ini and save data stay in place.

Is there a minimum term?

No. Monthly billing renews month by month and you can cancel whenever you like. The 3, 6 and 12 month terms are paid upfront at a lower monthly rate.

What a Day of Dragons Server Is

Day of Dragons is an online creature survival game: you hatch as a young dragon, eat, drink and grow towards adulthood, and share the world with other players and AI creatures. Steam's description is clear about where that happens: on a dedicated server that you or someone else is hosting.

Beawesome Games runs official servers, but a community server lets you write the rules: whether players can fight, how fast dragons grow, how big clans get and who may join at all. Beawesome makes the dedicated server available for Windows and Linux, and our panel handles installing, updating and starting it.

Game.ini: Where Every Rule Lives

Beawesome's server config guide puts every setting in Game.ini, inside the server's Dragons/Saved/Config folder, under a single header line. Integer settings start with i, true or false switches with b, and text values with s. These are the ones most owners change first:

SettingDefaultWhat it does
iServerType00 PvP, 1 PvE, 2 DvE, 3 CvC
iMaxPlayers100The player cap; patch 1.2.17 raised the hard limit to 300
iAutoSaveSeconds300Seconds between autosaves, 60 to 3600
iCorpseDespawnTime300How long corpses stay, 60 to 1500 seconds
iGrowthRateMultiplier10 half speed, 1 normal, 2 one and a half, 3 double
iMaxLatencyMS0 (off)Kicks players above a ping you set, 120 to 800
iDailyRestartHour0 (off)An automatic restart at this hour, in UTC
sMapsv_ForestThe map; the Forgotten Forest in Survival mode

Choosing PvP, PvE, DvE or CvC

The server type is the biggest decision you make, because it decides what kind of community forms around the server.

  • PvP (0): every form of PvP is allowed. On PvP servers, bFlagHatchlingKillers can mark adults and elders who kill hatchlings with red eyes for 20 minutes.
  • PvE (1): no PvP at all, and the Elemental faction is disabled. Suits relaxed and roleplay servers.
  • DvE (2): only faction PvP is allowed.
  • CvC (3): faction and clan PvP only; the clan limit is always 255 on these servers.

Roleplay servers can also set bRoleplay=True, which adds an RP tag in the server browser and turns on some roleplay features such as custom names.

Players, Performance and the 100-Player Advice

Beawesome's guidance has been consistent: about 100 players gives the best playability on most servers. When patch 1.2.17 raised the hard cap from 200 to 300 in January 2026, it added that only high-performance Zen 5 servers should go further, with no more than 125 players per dedicated physical CPU core. Its own Sanctuary PvE server was then said to support up to 200.

That is why our listed plans stop at 100 slots, with memory rising from the free 5GB tier to 16GB as the plans grow. The order form sells slots one at a time up to 250 for owners who want to experiment, and lower corpse despawn times help on busy servers, as Beawesome's own guide suggests.

Admins, Friends Lists and Bans

Access is controlled with Steam64 IDs, the 17-digit numbers Steam gives every account. Each list takes one line per player, so adding three admins means three sServerAdmins lines.

  1. Collect the Steam64 ID of every admin and trusted player.
  2. Add them to Game.ini on sServerAdmins, sServerFriends or sServerBanned lines.
  3. Set bUseFriendsList=True if only friends should be able to join.
  4. Restart, then open the admin panel in game with /admin, adding the password if sServerPassword is set.

The admin panel has grown with each update. Update 1.2 added Grow Elder, Protect and Unprotect, with dangerous commands now needing a two-second hold, and patch 1.2.20 let admins whisper a player by typing @ followed by their Steam ID and a message.

Growth, Nesting, Eggs and Pearls

Growth and breeding are the heart of the game, and the server decides how much they matter. bDisableNesting stops nesting for skins and stat upgrades, while bForceNormalizedEggStats removes the random genetic edge from freshly spawned eggs.

Two newer systems need an owner's attention. Since patch 1.2.20, eggs discarded during Brood Watcher brooding can be saved locally and brought to a private server, if the owner allows it; bDisableEggSaves turns that off. Patch 1.2.31 then added maintenance mode: with bMNTC_RemoveDupes=true the server deletes duplicated items from player inventories and keeps the originals. Beawesome ran the same pearl duplicate removal on its official servers.

Updates, Restarts and Backups

  • Updates: run Steam Update after each patch, or schedule it, so your server matches the players' version.
  • Restarts: use iDailyRestartHour, which works in UTC, or a Scheduled Task in the panel.
  • Backups: take one before maintenance mode or a type change, and rely on our offsite copies of the last 7 days as a safety net.
  • Patch notes: read them before updating. New Game.ini options arrive with many updates.

What to Compare Before You Rent a Day of Dragons Server

Hosting offers for Day of Dragons look similar on paper. These details decide how the server runs once it is busy.

  1. Game.ini accessYou need to edit the full file yourself. Panels that expose only a few settings leave out half the game's options.
  2. Memory per planAn Unreal Engine 5 server with many players needs more RAM than a small one. Check what each plan includes.
  3. Honest player countsBeawesome advises about 100 players for most servers. Be wary of huge slot counts with no extra memory.
  4. Location and pingTest before you buy, especially if you plan to use a latency limit.
  5. Backups you can restoreMake sure you can back up before maintenance mode and restore without waiting on a ticket.
  6. Update controlPatches arrive often, so check you can update the server yourself or on a schedule.
