Cubic Odyssey Server Hosting in 2026: Updates and Status

Cubic Odyssey launched on 14 May 2025 and Atypical Games has kept updating it. Dedicated servers arrived on 13 October 2025 as a free beta app for PC owners, and later patches have added server difficulty settings, fixes for server sessions, Steam Workshop blueprints and, in July 2026, taming and pets.

Settings and Workshop

Settings and Workshop for Cubic Odyssey Server Hosting

A Cubic Odyssey server is shaped by its settings and by what your crew brings into it. The server owner sets the rules, and players can share ships and structures through the Steam Workshop.

Server owner settings

Game mode

Atypical Games named the game mode among the settings server owners can adjust, with Adventure and Creative modes in the game.

Memory per galaxy

RAM for Cubic Odyssey Server Hosting

Atypical Games has not published memory figures for the dedicated server. A voxel galaxy with players spread across planets and ships uses more memory than an arena shooter, so the larger crew plan includes 8GB, and the free 5GB tier covers a small group.

  • A few friends on one adventure

    Plan: 6 Slots
    RAM included: 5GB

When to add more: If you build very large bases or ships.

  • Several crews on different planets

    Plan: 12 Slots
    RAM included: 8GB

When to add more: Consider 12GB for huge builds and many explored systems.

  • A long-running shared galaxy

    Plan: 12 Slots
    RAM included: 8GB

When to add more: Add memory if the log shows warnings after months of play.

The order form offers 5GB, 8GB, 12GB, 16GB, 20GB, 24GB and 32GB. Change the tier from the client area whenever you need to; your world stays in place.

Built for crews

Cubic Odyssey Server Hosting Features

Why a dedicated server suits a shared galaxy better than a player-hosted session.

Play without the host

As long as the server is live, your crew can play even when the owner is not in the game.

A world that moves on

Atypical Games say the world keeps evolving while you are away, so there is always something new to find.

More than P2P allows

Dedicated lobbies hold more players than the game's peer-to-peer sessions.

Progress kept on the server

Character progress and inventory are stored with your world, not on someone's PC.

5.0GHz CPUs

Fast cores keep combat and building responsive when the whole crew is active.

Protected galaxy

DDoS filtering stops attacks before they reach your server.

Before launch

Cubic Odyssey Server Hosting Essentials

Five things to do before your crew launches into the new galaxy.

  1. Make a new character

Each dedicated server needs its own character. Tell your friends their single-player hero will not carry over.

  2. Choose the mode first

Set Adventure or Creative and the difficulty before people start, as changing them later alters the experience.

  3. Share the session details

Atypical Games' design has the owner share the server's session ID with the people they invite. Keep it within your group.

  4. Check settings after updates

A past update reset server configuration settings, so look over yours after every big patch.

  5. Back up before big changes

Save the world in the Backup Manager before trying a new setting or a major update.

Answers

Cubic Odyssey Server Hosting FAQ

Questions crews ask us before ordering.

Ordering and setup

How quickly is my Cubic Odyssey server ready?

It sets itself up automatically when your payment clears, normally within 20 minutes, and you get the login details by email.

How many players can a server hold?

Atypical Games launched dedicated servers with lobbies of up to 20 players. Our 6 and 12 slot plans sit inside that limit.

Is the dedicated server an extra purchase?

Not for you. Atypical Games made the dedicated server free for PC owners of the game, and it is included in your hosting.

Which location is best?

The one with the lowest ping for most of your crew. Use the ping test on this page from where they play. All 9 locations cost the same.

Playing on the server

Can we play when the server owner is offline?

Yes. That is the main point of a dedicated server: as long as it is running, invited players can join without the owner.

Will my single-player character come with me?

No. Each dedicated server needs its own character, and progress on that server stays tied to it.

Can console players join?

Atypical Games made the dedicated server available to PC players. We have no official statement that console players can join a PC dedicated server, so plan for a PC crew.

Can we use Workshop blueprints?

Yes. Since update 1.2.0.0 players can share and download ship and structure blueprints through the Steam Workshop.

Hardware

How much RAM does a Cubic Odyssey server need?

Atypical Games has not published a figure. The 6 slot plan includes 5GB and the 12 slot plan includes 8GB; add more if you build very large ships and bases.

Do I need to forward ports?

No. The server runs in our data centre, already reachable for your players.

Billing

How much does Cubic Odyssey server hosting cost?

Plans start at $7.07 a month for 6 slots. The table shows both sizes for 1, 3, 6 and 12 months, and longer terms cost less per month.

Can I upgrade later?

Yes. Change the slot count or add RAM from the client area. Your world and backups stay in place.

Is there a minimum term?

No. Monthly billing can be cancelled at any time, and longer terms are paid in advance at a lower rate.

What a Cubic Odyssey Dedicated Server Changes

Cubic Odyssey is an open-world adventure across a galaxy of block-built planets. Players mine resources, craft tools and weapons, build vehicles, bases and starships, trade with NPC cities and fight the Red Darkness, a spreading infection that mutates wildlife and consumes planets. It launched on 14 May 2025 from Atypical Games, published by Gaijin Network.

Until October 2025, playing together meant one player hosting a peer-to-peer session. On 13 October 2025 Atypical Games launched dedicated servers as a separate free app for PC owners, in beta at launch. The studio's announcement highlights the main differences: lobbies of up to 20 players, more than the peer-to-peer system allowed, and a world that runs even when the host is not in the game.

For a crew that plays at different times, that changes everything. One friend can mine on a Tuesday night, another can finish a ship on Wednesday, and the whole group can meet at the weekend for a pirate base, all in the same galaxy without waiting for the owner to be online.

Planning the Size of Your Crew

Slots are the number of players who can be connected at the same time. The official dedicated server holds up to 20, and most groups are far smaller. Think about how many people will be online together at peak times rather than how many will ever join.

Two to six friends6 SlotsOne crew, one adventure, the lowest price
Several friend groups12 SlotsRoom for crews on different planets, with 8GB RAM
A growing community12 Slots, then talk to usWe can advise as your numbers approach the official limit

Settings, Characters and Progress

Atypical Games set up the dedicated server through a configuration file. Before release the studio listed a wide range of settings for server owners, including the game mode and a password, and update 1.2.2.1 in January 2026 added several difficulty settings to the server. Open the configuration in our File Manager, make your choices, save and restart.

  • New character per server: each dedicated server needs its own character, and that character's progress stays tied to the server.
  • Progress is server-side: the studio says progression and inventory are saved on the server, so nothing is lost if one player's PC fails.
  • Invites: the owner shares the server's session ID with the people they want to invite.
  • Mode and difficulty: decide them at the start, because changing them mid-galaxy changes the game for everyone.

Tell new players about the separate character before their first login. People who have spent weeks on a single-player hero are less surprised when they know in advance that the shared galaxy is a fresh start.

Keeping the Server Current Through Updates

Cubic Odyssey is still being developed. Since dedicated servers launched, patches have fixed synchronisation and quest problems on server sessions, reworked combat, added the Steam Workshop for blueprints, brought in agriculture, a custom starting planet and, in update 1.3.1.0 in July 2026, taming, pets and crossbreeding.

  1. Read the patch notes when an update arrives.
  2. Take a backup of the world in the Backup Manager.
  3. Update the server so it matches the players' game version.
  4. Check the configuration, because the festive update in October 2025 reset server settings.
  5. Start the server, read the log and join once to make sure everything works.
  6. Tell your crew the server is ready again.

Building and Exploring Together

Shared galaxies work best with a little organisation. Agree which star system is home, who looks after the shared base, and how loot from pirate bases is split. Chests can be locked, which helps keep personal storage personal when a dozen people pass through one base.

Workshop blueprints are a quick way to give a new crew member a ship worth flying. Since update 1.2.0.0 players can share their own designs and download others' from the shipyard and the blueprint window, so one good builder can equip the whole group.

Solving Common Problems

ProblemLikely causeWhat to do
A player cannot joinVersion mismatch after a patchUpdate the server to the current game version
Settings back to defaultReset by a game updateRe-apply your settings in the configuration

The server log in our Web Console usually shows what went wrong within seconds of a start. If it does not, open a ticket with the time and what you changed last, and our support team will help at any hour.

Hosted Server or Your Own PC?

Anyone who owns the game on PC can run the free dedicated server tool from their Steam library. Running it at home, though, means leaving a computer on around the clock, sharing your upload with every player and dealing with your router. The galaxy is only online while that machine is.

A hosted Cubic Odyssey server runs in a data centre on a fast CPU and NVMe storage, behind DDoS filtering, with backups kept offsite. Your crew can drop in whenever they like, and the shared galaxy keeps evolving whether you are playing or not.

What to Compare Before You Rent a Cubic Odyssey Server

For a game that is still evolving, these are the points that make a real difference.

  1. Honest player countsThe official server launched with a 20-player limit; check that the plan you pay for fits it.
  2. Config file accessYou need the real configuration file to set mode, password and difficulty.
  3. Fast updatesThe server must match the players' version after each patch.
  4. BackupsA saved world protects weeks of building from a bad update or mistake.
  5. Ping to your crewTest from where your players live before you choose a location.
  6. No lock-inLook for monthly billing with no setup fee and no minimum term.
