EA's Shutdown of Airborne's Online Services
Electronic Arts publishes the online services it has retired on its Online Services Shutdown list. The Medal of Honor Airborne entry reads: "February 16, 2023 / Medal of Honor: Airborne for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3". The PlayStation Portable version appears separately, among services retired before 2013.
Airborne was one of three on that date: Medal of Honor, which EA's list dates 2011, and Warfighter closed alongside it. Each entry names a date and the platforms, nothing more. It does not spell out which features went, so neither do we.
What We Know and What We Cannot Confirm
The product side is clear. You can order an Airborne server sized from 12 to 64 slots, with your pick of memory, a 5.0GHz processor, NVMe drives and attack filtering, in any of 9 locations, all run from one web panel.
The playing side is not. No statement from EA, or anyone else official, tells us that players can locate, join and enjoy an Airborne dedicated server with the online services gone. Telling you now beats you discovering it after paying, so raise it with support first and decide once you have their answer.
| Question | Our answer |
|---|---|
| When did EA end the online services? | 16 February 2023, on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, according to EA's list |
| Can players join a rented server today? | No official source confirms it; ask support first |
| Is there an official way to restore online play? | None we are aware of |
| Will we install an unofficial fix? | No, we stick to what the game ships with |
A Short Ticket Before You Buy
Tickets are read day and night. Before paying for anything, these four questions are worth sending:
- If I order an Airborne server today, can my group actually join and play on it?
- Does it matter whether players bought the game on Steam or the EA app?
- Which parts of the game, if any, stopped with EA's 2023 closure?
- If it does not work out, how do I stop or switch?
Should you decide to try it, pick monthly billing rather than a longer term. Nothing ties you in, so the cost of finding out is one month at most.
Medal of Honor Airborne at a Glance
Medal of Honor Airborne is a Second World War first-person shooter from EA Los Angeles, published by Electronic Arts. EA's game page dates it to 7 September 2007, and Steam has sold the PC version since 6 October 2009. You play Boyd Travers, a Private First Class in the 82nd Airborne Division, from Sicily to the heart of Germany. Each mission starts in the air, behind enemy lines, and Steam describes open, free-roaming battlefields, objectives you can take in any order and upgradeable weapons.
Today EA sells the PC version through the EA app, and Steam lists it as single-player and multi-player. EA's page lists Windows XP or Vista, 32-bit, says 64-bit versions are not supported, asks for an EA account and a single-use serial code, and says players must be 13 or older for online features. Those online features are exactly what the 2023 closure covers, so this page does not present Airborne's multiplayer modes or player numbers as current. We have no official word that they are.
The Plans in Detail
Four sizes appear on this page: 12, 16, 20 and 24 slots. The first two carry 5GB of memory at no extra cost, the other two 8GB. Checkout goes further, up to 64 slots and 32GB, but without a published player cap the sensible choice is the smallest size that fits.
- Hardware: 5.0GHz and 100GB of NVMe as standard, with quicker CPUs, priority and more disk available.
- Where: Britain, France, Germany, America or Australia, priced the same.
- Billing: month to month, or quarterly, half-yearly and yearly for a lower rate.
- Support: round-the-clock tickets; VIP priority is an optional add-on.
How the Server Is Managed
All our games share a single browser panel for starting, stopping, config editing, logs, file transfers, timed restarts and backups. Two habits apply everywhere: save config edits only while the server is stopped, and make a backup ahead of any change you may regret.
Each time it starts, the server is copied offsite first to protect your data, and the panel may read 0 CPU and 0 memory for up to a minute meanwhile. Executable files (DLL, EXE and BAT) are blocked on SFTP uploads for safety; support can place one if you really need it.
Other Second World War Shooters to Consider
Plenty of WW2 shooters are still very much alive online, and we host a good number. Start with Medal of Honor: Allied Assault server hosting, the first Medal of Honor on PC, where community servers carry on, or its Spearhead expansion. Beyond the series, Day of Defeat in both versions, Call of Duty 2 and United Offensive, Red Orchestra 2 and Sniper Elite 3 all appear below.
One rule carries over from Airborne to any of them: when in doubt about a game's online state, a ticket before ordering costs nothing.
