Last Oasis Server Hosting: The Complete Guide
This guide covers running a private Last Oasis realm in 2026: what makes the game unusual, how self-hosting works alongside the official realm, choosing a size, mods and the EAC launch option, setting your rules and riding out seasonal updates. It is written for whoever ends up as the realm's admin.

What Makes Last Oasis Different
In Last Oasis the Earth has stopped rotating. The sun has burned the west to dust, the east is frozen, and survivors live in the narrow band between, always moving. They move on walkers: wooden, wind-powered machines inspired by Theo Jansen's strandbeests that serve as transport, harvester, trader and siege engine in one.
Resources run out fast, so players scavenge, trade and pirate to survive, and clans fight to control territory and lead the economy. Donkey Crew calls it a nomadic survival MMO, and the walker is the heart of it: you build it, customise it with structures and attachments, crew it and lose it. Solo players and small groups have a place too, as traders, mercenaries, hunters or pirates.
- Walkers: moving bases for travel, harvesting, transport and combat.
- Clans: territory, alliances and conflict over the economy.
- Scarcity: resources deplete, so nobody stays in one place for long.
- Combat: melee, ranged weapons and walker-mounted siege engines.
Official Realm and Private Realms
Last Oasis began with official servers only, and its FAQ once said community servers would come through Donkey Crew's partner Nitrado. Season 4, released on 5 August 2021, changed that. Donkey Crew described getting self-hosted servers out of the door as something it had wanted since before launch, and shipped them with admin commands chosen with help from community groups.
Season 4 also put private servers in the same realm browser as the official ones, let realms be sorted by player count, and added a description, message of the day and Discord link to each realm's screen. Spectators on private servers stopped being idle-kicked. The official realm is still run by Donkey Crew, and its July 2026 update described moving it to Nitrado's GameFabric server management system.
Choosing a Size for Your Realm
Donkey Crew's FAQ puts the current limit at 100 players per server, and our order form sells any count from 10 to 100. Choose for your busiest night. A single clan learning the settings is fine on 10. A PvE or friends realm sits comfortably on 20. Rival clans and sieges want 40 or more, and a public community realm grows towards 60 and 100.
| Realm type | What it suits | Suggested slots |
|---|---|---|
| Private clan realm | One crew, testing rules | 10 |
| PvE or friends realm | Building and trading together | 20 |
| Competitive realm | Rival clans and territory | 40 |
| Community realm | Many clans, events | 60 to 100 |
Memory rises with the plan because walkers are effectively bases on legs, each with parts, storage and crew to track. If your realm outgrows its plan, upgrade from the client area and the server keeps its files.
Mods, ModKit 2.0 and the EAC Launch Option
Mods are one of the best reasons to run a private realm, and Donkey Crew's ModKit is how they are made. ModKit 2.0, released on 18 November 2025, made it easier to work on several mods that share or conflict on assets and to keep changes across game updates. It also invalidated every existing mod until its author rebuilt it, so check that each mod you want has been updated since.
Anti-cheat matters for who can join. Since the 20 February 2026 update, the game asks at launch whether to start with Easy Anti-Cheat. Players with EAC enabled can join official servers but not modded private servers; players without it can join modded private servers but not official ones. If your realm runs mods, put that in your realm description and your Discord, because it is the first thing new players trip over.
- Pick mods that have been rebuilt for ModKit 2.0.
- Add them to the server and its mod list.
- Start the server and check the log; a March 2026 hotfix added a modlist check at server start.
- Tell players to launch without EAC to join.
Setting Your Realm's Rules
The official realm has its own idea of balance, and since Season 4 it runs without a clan cap. Private realms can still enforce hard clan caps, which keeps one large clan from swallowing the map. Decide early whether your realm is PvP, PvE or a mix, and write it into the realm description so players arrive with the right expectations.
Clear rules about raiding, offline protection and walker theft save your admins hours of arguments later. Pin them in your Discord, link that Discord from the realm screen, and use the message of the day for anything that changes, such as event nights or restart times.
Seasons, Chapters and Updates
Last Oasis is still in Early Access and moves in seasons. Season 6 launched on 6 March 2026 after a long test period, Chapter 2 went live on 8 May, and in July Donkey Crew described its plans for Chapter 3. Each of these brings large patches, and players update automatically through Steam.
A private server needs to follow. Watch Donkey Crew's news, take a backup before every update, update the server from the panel soon after a patch lands, and check the console that it starts and connects. Mods may need their authors to update too, which is another reason to keep your mod list short and well maintained.
Backups and Moving From Another Host
We keep offsite backups of the last 7 days, restorable from the panel. Take your own snapshot before a season update or a mod change. If you are moving from another host, bring the server's settings and mod files with you and ask our support team to help reconnect the server to your existing realm.
What to Compare Before You Rent a Last Oasis Server
A private realm is a long-term home for a community. These details matter more than the headline price.
- Help with the realm linkA Last Oasis server must connect to your realm. Ask whether the host helps with that.
- Memory per planWalkers and bases add up. Check how much RAM each slot size really includes.
- Per-slot pricingLook for slots sold one at a time, so a clan of fifteen does not pay for a hundred.
- Quick game updatesSeasons bring big patches. Make sure you can update the server yourself.
- Backups you can restoreCheck you can roll back yourself before a risky mod change.
- Billing termsCompare monthly and longer cycles, and look for setup fees and minimum terms.
